Extra Virgin Olive Oil vs. Nuts

DESCRIPTION: The short-term effect of replacing refined olive oil with extra virgin olive oil, walnuts, or almonds on cardiovascular risk factors. Adding nuts and seeds to one’s salad boosts the bioavailability of the fat-soluble carotenoid phytonutrients in the greens. See my video Forego Fat-Free Dressings (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/forego-fat-free-dressings/). Oil would work, but whole food sources of fat (and other nutrients!) are superior. For more on nuts and cholesterol see Nuts and Bolts of Cholesterol Lowering (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/nuts-and-bolts-of-cholesterol-lowering/) and for more on the adverse effects of too much sodium, see Dietary Guidelines with a Grain of Big Salt (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/dietary-guidelines-with-a-grain-of-big-salt/) and Salt OK if Blood Pressure is OK? 15 Risposte a “Extra Virgin Olive Oil vs. Nuts”

  1. This is another hit piece (why show factory farm in U.S. when criticizing olive oil producers). More psycological then science. Looks like the start of dementia might be happening if you cut cholesterol. What is your SUGar intake?

  2. Not to mention an olive straight off the tree tastes HORRID, that's why they soak them. We're not meant to eat them. And the production of oils is devastating to the environment! Whole foods all the way.

  3. I'm still waiting for a convincing argument with regard to salt reduction.  My blood pressure has always been low-normal, and my NaCl consumption doesn't change that.  SO i'll eat brined olives with abandon.  Thanks.

  4. Pour the brine off the olives and soak them in cold water, replacing the water once an hour for as long as needed to reduce the salt content, you'll notice by the change in taste.

  5. Dr Greger what do you think of the Pulse Wave Velocity( PWV) tests that apparently showed nuts harden/lessen elasticity of arteries?, a Vegan Doctor( link below) has made a yt vid explaining all this, and he mentions you as ‘having it wrong’ re Nuts. Personally I think they are wrong, but would love a Vegan ytuber to address this!. 🌎✊🏽🌻 https://youtu.be/zkC0-sXruM8

  6. I tried looking at the study but it was behind a paywall. What reduced c-reactive protein more? almonds or walnuts? would love a reply please

  7. EVOO actually did better or just as well in many categories. None of these categories show a catastrophic detriment to health when compared to EVOO. Unfiltered EVOO performs even better than nuts.
