Facts: What You Need To Know About Carbs, Series 1. #nutrition #nutritionfacts #carbs

Carbohydrates are one of the main nutrients in our diet. They are one of the main sources of energy for human beings. There are three main types of carbohydrates found in foods: sugars, starches, and fiber. People with diabetes often need to count the amount of carbohydrates they eat to ensure a consistent supply throughout the day. We often call starchy and fibrous foods “carbs”, but carbohydrates are found in many different foods like fruit, dairy, beans, whole grain pasta, and candy. Why do carbs get a bad rap? Carbs turn to a simple sugar such as glucose in your body, elevating your blood sugar levels. There are good carbs and there are bad carbs. Simple carbs are the bad kind. Complex carbs are the good kind. Not all carbs are created equal. Carbs from whole, fiber-rich foods are generally healthy, while added sugars and refined carbs are extremely unhealthy. #carbohydrate #carbs #nutrition #nutritionfacts #viral #viralvideo #simplecarbs #complexcarbs <br />

by Prof. Julie Lovegrove (Author). If you only have 30 seconds, there is time – using this book – to bone up on how to eat well. We’re served a daily diet of food facts, fads and often far-fetched claims for what we put on our plates, which makes it difficult to distinguish healthy from harmful. With obesity, heart disease, diabetes and other life-threatening conditions rapidly rising, it pays to understand that we are very much what we eat and that good food – in the right proportions and portion sizes – is essential for our health and well-being. Strip away the flab with this accessible, jargon-free, guide to good nutrition served up in manageable bites. From fasting to fats, enzymes to E-numbers, if you have an appetite for expert advice on real food, this is the perfect book to dip into.
