Friday Favorites: Benefits of Flaxseeds for Inflammation

Elevated levels of pro-inflammatory, aging-associated oxylipins can be normalized by eating ground flaxseed.

Here’s the video I did on Flax Seeds for Hypertension (https://nutritionfacts.org/video/Flax-Seeds-for-Hypertension).

But what about the cyanide content of flax? I answered that in

66 Risposte a “Friday Favorites: Benefits of Flaxseeds for Inflammation”

  1. Can you comment on the testosterone lowering effects of flax seeds, when I eat them my testosterone goes to the bottom, lose all libido, sex drive, when I stop eating them it comes back to normal and everything is great, for this reason I had to stop consuming them

  2. There seems to be something wrong with the stereo mixing of the voice, it seems to move around from right to mid position (e.g., 0:400:45, 1:502:00, 2:14). Especially noticable with headphones. Maybe something wrong with the compressor? Easiest fix: set the voice-track to mono.

  3. Thinking back to the early Dr. Gregor red light, yellow light, green light videos which sounded like they were recorded with shower stall acoustics in the middle of the night. Classics.🙂

  4. I can never remember if it’s better to use whole flax seed, recently ground up flax seed, or pre-ground flax seed from a package

  5. My morning flaxseed is flaxseed balls. Ground 3 tblspns of flaxseeds, add 2 medjool dates and blend again, add a banana coin and blend a 3rd time. A powerful blender is required. It doesnt workd to throw all in at once. I form it into balls. Delicious with tea.

  6. Love this! Treat inflammation (from oxylipids) which predisposes ppl to chronic health conditions with flaxseeds which brings inflammation in middle aged adults down to the levels of twenty-somethings!! Yay!!

  7. Flaxseeds truly are amazing 😀 been eating my tablespoon a day for years now 🙂 thank you so much <3

  8. For years I have been grinding flaxseed every morning. The nurse who took my blood pressure was impressed. I am just starting your book How Not to Diet having read How Not to Die cover to cover several times! Quite apart from the info. I love your jokes and the dedication 'To my mom, the source of everything good in my life.' Thank you Dr Greger.

  9. I'm trying to get into your sunscreen webinar. I received the what you need to know about zoom, but not the link email. Feeling a bit frustrated, especially since I donated, but more importantly really wanted the info. Last webinar about bone health, I couldn't open the attachment sent after the webinar. This is very frustrating!

  10. YAY!! I'VE BEEN TAKING FLAXSEEDS FOR YRS AS RECOMMENDED FOR MY ARTHRITIS BY A FRIEND NUTRITIONIST IN VENEZUELA. AND THEN AFTER READING DR GREGER'S BOOKS I'VE BEEN
ADDING MY TABLESPOON OF FLAX SEEDS IN MY SMOOTHIE. I ALSO MAKE MULTI SEED CRACKERS WITH FLAX.
AND BELIEVE ME IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN INFLAMMATION AND PAIN.👌🏾👍🏽💪🏾✊🏽
I DON'T HAVE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, BUT I WILL RECOMMEND IT TO THOSE THAT DO HAVE IT.
    🌺✌🏾💚🌺☮️💟🌺

  11. Unfortunately most brands including the one I was taking have pretty high levels of cadmium, a toxic heavy metal. These are okay- Whole flax: WF 365 and Arrowhead.
Ground: WM Great value and trader Joe's. Also you could sprout whole flax sometimes.

  12. Those four week results are impressive and as someone getting uncomfortably close to fifty, I'm tempted. But those muffins had 30g of flaxseed each – which is more than four tablespoons. I've no problem adding a tablespoon to my smooties, but four? That seems like lot.

  13. Someone I know told me that ground flaxseeds should be eaten within 10 mintues right after, well, they are ground, otherwise they lose their anti inflammatory properties. I have nothing to back this up, so would love to hear what you make of this claim

  14. I would like to see a video analysing the differences between vitamin D3 and D2, and and explanation of why Soya Milk is always fortified with D2. Also, congratulation on 1M subscribers.

  15. I have been consuming flax, chia, and basil seeds all day every day in my daily water for years. During this time I have developed severe permanent debilitating life threatening heart arrhythmia to include AFIB. I have experienced no obvious health improvements. My brain and joint function have continued to decline. My joints could even be much worse due to the oxalates. My skin, hair, nails, have not shown any signs of improvement or slowed aging. As near as I can tell there have been no health improvements to speak of and quite possibly harm. I started this regimen years ago based on your and others recommendations. Also, you might consider telling your viewers how sensitive the flax seed PUFA fat is to heat since you are now recommending cooked flax seeds. Cooked PUFA is very quickly oxidized which is harmful to our bodies and causes the opposite of the desired antioxidant effect. Additionally, flax seeds must be ground and refrigerated/frozen just prior to consumption since ground seeds very quickly become rancid/oxidized. A safe/desired ground seed shelf life seems to be about 1-2 weeks refrigerated/frozen. However, I have not been able to find any definitive shelf life recommendations. I now only purchase raw nuts and seeds and immediately freeze to slow oxidative damage. Actually, I am now considering quitting all nuts and seeds since discovering Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt/The Diet Doctor High Satiety Diet/Eating. The harmful and misinformation online these days is staggering.

  16. I like to steam sweet potatoes (cut into rough chunks!), with butternut squash, sometimes carrot, and the moisture from all that easily soaks into a hearty portion of flax and some hemp. I get flax whole and keep it frozen to use with my nutribullet 1200. It has prevailed at grinding my flax for 3 years now, just helps to get about the right amount in it to buzz. ….and I found that the 'BODUM' storage jar 0.6 l, 20 oz, does the trick. Just fill it to the base of the silicon grip with whole, frozen flax, ..pour that amount into the bullet, and although you will start to hear it test the motor a bit, no problem, done. Put in back in the storage jar and it's full of fresh ground flax!.

Been sharing this with an old Labrador, and she certainly seams to be defying her age. ..so proof is in the 'eating' of the pudding I'm sure now, and I like it with a dash of soy sauce. Soak the potatoes and squash in cold water after the steam if you want a quick serve, and simply work the flax and hemp into the mash. I steam until soft and simply stir it in. I usually make enough to last a few days, glad to hear it's actually been work it all this time!

  17. i love when you do video with your mug in it
    your funny and expressive
flax seed chia seed are OVERPOWER take it vegan take it
it changed my articulation pain its unreal.
    try it then laugh.

  18. With ground flaxseed, you never need to bake dough with eggs:. To replace two eggs for baking, microwave a half-cup (120 mL) water, stir in 3 Tablespoons (44 mL) of ground flaxseed, then allow them to gel before beating them in like eggs. The drop in hypertensive blood pressure is worth the drop in probability flaxseed chocolate chip cookies will make it to the oven.

  19. Wait, so is flaxseed oil not effective? Or is it worth continuing anyway?
My mom and I try to get as much flaxseed as we can, but we also take flaxseed oil daily for convenience.

  20. I freeze flaxseed before grinding it in a 4 step process in my Vitamix 1/2 cup at a time, refreeze and regrind in a Crups coffee/spice grinder, shaking up and down constantly @ 15-20 seconds. The result is almost as fine as white flower. I do several cups at a time, all back in freezer to prevent rancidity. FAR more useful than mearly ground flax, no mouth feel. A 1/2 cup of seed becomes @7/8c+
