  1. To be fair, egg yolks also contain saturated [deleted] fat. So it may not be the cholesterol on its own.

    Edit: My mistake, eggs do not contain trans fat.

  2. Me and my partner eat the same amount of eggs…I have normal cholesterol and he has high cholesterol. At least in my experience, eggs does seem to raise cholesterol only on certain people.

  3. Different people DO react differently to eggs. And meats. You must know your genetic propensities and test yourself often to know what food does to you.

    There is no way around this.

  4. Interesting but…
    My cholesterol has always been within healthy range (I'm 65, vegetarian, London based).
    About 2 yrs ago I decided I wanted 2 eggs for breakfast so I had a cholesterol test to have a baseline for future referal. I've had cholesterol tests every 6 months and they have not shown any significate variance, I am still within the healthy range.
    I know my case is anecdotal and other factors might be involved, nevertheless… will my eggs taste different now that they have an artery clotting guilt sprinkled all over?

  5. This video fell a bit short in my opinion.

    Cholesterol increase from egg eating will be primarily from fat consumption, not the dietary cholesterol.
    You could've then gone shortly into whether dietary versus endogenous cholesterol makes a difference.

    That wouldn't necessarily change the conclusion, but it would present a more accurate picture.

  6. When you know than centarian are the people that have the most high cholesterol levels.. Maybe it is not the enemy.. If you see vulture on a carcasse it no means that the vultur kill the animals but he was here to clean it. Maybe it is same with cholesterol it is not because it is present that it is the cause, the body could make more for a protection role. We don't know all actually. They are also people one meat and egg diet only that reduce clogging,i think it depends of your genetics some thrive better vegan some meat some mixed

  7. These old studies made decades ago, accompanied by a high carb diet / dietary pyramid type diet, I would not trust them so much.

    Would love to see these studies remade with low carb / keto diets to see if dietary cholesterol is as important a factor.

  8. There are people who hyper absorb sterols.

    These are people who need to avoid not only cholesterol but phytosterols as well.

    Normally, phytosterols block sterol absorbing cells in the intestines from absorbing cholesterol.

    But in people with mutations in their ABCG5/8 genes, the intestinal cells absorb the phytosterols as well and since they are sterols, they will also cause atherosclerosis in a condition called sitosterolemia.

  9. Don't read the abstract but actually see what they found and how the study was made.
    AND PLEASE do this not just with food but with everything promoted especially by Pharma but also other big Industries – EVEN IF IT IS SAID TO BE "URGENT".
    A rule should be applied to everything that you can apply it to!

  10. Many decades ago I had "infectious hepatitis" in a city where all the kids in the school district got this same form of hepatitis. My mother was a nurse and knew I hated eating eggs. I thought they smelled like the fire and brimstone of Hell I guess. Point being she said until I recovered I could quit eating eggs. I was flabberghasted since I was getting used to the taste. But my condition did resolve. And of course I was told I could never give blood. But after I had been raw vegan for a few years the Red Cross tested my blood and said I could donate. Go figure.

    Absolute nonsense of a video. Even if there is a bump of cholesterol, which is btw far more beneficial than detrimental, eggs on a net net benefit are superior food. And I have no idea if this guy is so knowledgeable, why is he looking like an absolute caricature of a man. Carry on.

  17. And what’s the next question? Egg promoters will tell you that eating eggs won’t raise your serum cholesterol, and even if they do, it doesn’t matter. That’s the big question. Does it matter? They want to justify having their eggs both ways, and I don’t mean sunny-side up or scrambled.

  22. I dropped my total cholesterol by over 100 points and lost 30+ lbs by going whole food plant based. However, I actually want to gain back a few (8) pounds to be at the more optimal 20 bmi. Im looking at Dr Longo’s work on longevity. Ive added back EVOO (finishing not cooking) and 1-2 servings of seafood a week. I find it tricky to get enough calories and keep glucose levels normal after being in the prediabetes range. Im using a Levels continuous glucose monitor and all the tips (vinegar drink before meals, walks/exercise, preloading a meal with protein/fats (ie appetizer of olives and nuts), etc.). I want to be lean, not frail. I wish Dr. Greger would address this. Thanks!

  23. Only about 20% of dietary cholesterol is absorbed by the intestine due to cholesterol being esterified (bound to a fatty acid/carbon chain). These large molecules cannot bind the receptors that are responsible for endocytosing (in taking) cholesterol into the cell. The receptor responsible for bringing in cholesterol is called the Niemann-Pick type C2 protein

  24. The conclusions in this video are incorrect. It is not the cholesterol, but the saturated fat raising serum cholesterol. This is evident with the comparison between penguin eggs (high Omega 3) and other eggs. The most dangerous source of saturated fat, is coconut oil. It is used to induce hypercholesterolemia in laboratory animals.

  26. Very interesting. Coincidentally, I watched a new video just yesterday that seems to contradict the conclusions in this video. It's a self-funded study conducted by one man and reported out on his own video channel. The channel name is "What I've Learned" and I've subscribed there for a long time. The study looks legitimate to me but everyone should judge for themselves. The title of the video is: "I ate 900 eggs in 30 days. Here's what happened to my body."

    The new strategy they are deploying is that high LDL and cholesterol are healthy…etc.

  32. This study was done 40 years and there have been MANY recent studies done that show a correlation between increased serum cholesterol with increased intake of dietary cholesterol ONLY with a low sub group of individuals. Keto is the way to go! Don't buy into it.

  34. ye, this and the use of statin medication is more controversial, when deep dived, starting with the unreliability of tests of cholesterol, and definition of good vs bad … not such a clear cut thing. Eggs 🥚 are a wonderful food in my opinion. I eat eggs every other day.

  37. (SIGH) And so, Dr. Greger's relentless crusade against eggs goes on. 🙄

    I'm not exactly clear why there's so much hate against eggs, which aren't meat. The yolks serve as nourishment for baby chicks growing in fertilized eggs, and yet we are to believe that somehow a nutrient-dense, natural food source rich in selenium, vitamin A, omega-3, vitamin B2, B12, phosphorus, folate, vitamin D, vitamin E, vitamin B5, calcium, zinc, etc. is a harbinger of death. (1)

    Dr. Greger's referenced studies also show that HDL (the good cholesterol) rises, offsetting any LDL rise, and there's at least one (non egg industry-funded) study showing that eating at least one egg a day LOWERS the risk of dying by heart disease by 18%. (2)

    Indeed, my OWN cholesterol level DROPPED from 203 last year to 188 this year since I started regularly eating eggs. My HDL went up, and my LDL actually remained unchanged.

    According to Harvard medical, "For most people, the amount of cholesterol eaten has only a modest impact on the amount of cholesterol circulating in the blood." (3)

    It has been widely debunked that eggs and saturated fat are the key causes of heart disease. On the contrary, it's SUGAR that has been the true culprit all along. (4)

    While I enjoy Dr. Greger's videos, I'm cognizant of the fact that he is driving a narrative and cherry-picking conclusions drawn from clinical studies to bolster that narrative (and brand).

  38. So dietary cholesterol increased blood cholesterol levels, just like sugar consumption will increase glucose in the blood. Go it. But does a higher cholesterol blood level increase your health risk? If so, how? And is there a specific cholesterol type that's more indicative or your overall risk?

  39. This issue is far more nuanced. Rising HDL levels are no longer considered "good." In fact if elevated, they're bad. And it's too simplistic to label LDL, "bad." The issue of cholesterol in the blood is dominated by genetics. There are hypo-absorbers, and hyper-absorbers of cholesterol and many in between. If you are a hyper-absorber, then you are at higher risk of cardiac disease. If you are a hypo-absorber, than you can eat all the cholesterol you want and it won't be absorbed and it goes right through you. If you are a hyper-absorber, then you should avoid cholesterol-laden foods. If you're in between like most people, it depends. Simple blood tests done by most health care providers don't give the needed information about your specific condition. The only lipid test that's worth looking at is ApoB, which is rarely measured. And there are various tests to measure where you are on the absorption scale, but even fewer doctors even know about it. Doctors frequently throw statins at patients with high LDL. Statins lower the liver's ability to create cholesterol (where the average person gets 75 percent). When the intestines see less cholesterol coming from the liver, they start absorbing more from food. There are also drugs to lower absorption in the intestines. But doctors who don't find out your body's tendencies are just throwing darts at a dart board. As for Dr. Greger… There's usually some truth in what he says, but he does have that vegan axe to grind, and he doesn't dive into the specifics like Dr. Gil Carvalho does on the YouTube channel "Nutrition Made Simple."

  43. Everyone's different. Grandfather is 98 years old with no illness and has eaten eggs throughout his entire life. Everyone is different, eating a variety of foods is key.

  44. The higher the cholesterol the better people's health. Avoid vegetable oils to prevent heart attacks. Read the Big Fat Surprise by Nina Teicholz. She explains the research.

    Conclusions: High LDL-C is inversely associated with mortality in most people over 60 years. This finding is inconsistent with the cholesterol hypothesis (ie, that cholesterol, particularly LDL-C, is inherently atherogenic). Since elderly people with high LDL-C live as long or longer than those with low LDL-C, our analysis provides reason to question the validity of the cholesterol hypothesis. Moreover, our study provides the rationale for a re-evaluation of guidelines recommending pharmacological reduction of LDL-C in the elderly as a component of cardiovascular disease prevention strategies.

  46. Don't go vegan, just cut out refined carbs/sugar, and your cholesterol will drop. All while eating eggs, meat and fish. Vegan creates weakness and other problems.

  47. "No" actually. Firstly, there's no need to fear cholesterol; there's no need to check it. There is no such thing as high cholesterol, good cholesterol or bad cholesterol. That's just a demonized target by Big Sugar and the Big Seed Oil Procter & Gamble from the 60's.

    There's a set of controlled trials showing where they fed a group of
    sequestered test people 35 eggs a day for 30 days and their cholesterol rates never rose above each individual highest pre-test measure.

    Sorry vegans, but if you worry and mess with your cholesterol, you will forever be sickly and die sooner than those meat-only eaters, like myself, that dine on cholesterol rich fatty meats (plant-free).

Considering the standard cholesterol theory that, – cholesterol deposits are the underlying cause of atherosclerosis – it's hard not to wonder : "If cholesterol deposits are building up in large arteries to the degree of complete clogging/closure, what must be happening to all the small veins and capillaries?" Wouldn't they clog up first resulting in death from clogged veins/capillaries??" Another question: "Why doesn't cholesterol get deposited in everyone's arteries (and veins/capillaries) resulting in death from loss of blood flow in general for everyone?" I think these are logical, elephant in the room questions that the present cholesterol theory doesn't explain very well or even take into consideration. It seems to me that there's more at play with Atherosclerosis than the standard LDL/HDL levels theory.

    Cholesterol plays many roles in the body. Suppose one of those roles is repairing damage by depositing plaque as a protection, making cholesterol less of a villain and more of a prevention/protective strategy?
    Here's a possible theory that's based on the basic premise that the body has a natural intelligence and an innate 'self-healing' capacity as well as a mission to thrive and survive. This theory not only makes sense on an evolutionary level, but could provide sensible answers to the 2 above questions. Here's how it could play out: Upon detection of damaged artery walls, the body whips up a repair cement made from a mixture of cholesterol, calcium and fibrin, and uses this 'plaque' to repair damaged arterial walls to keep them from springing a leak, which could ultimately result in a person bleeding to death without knowing it. This strategy is used as an emergency and temporary measure.

    The body has phenomenal coping mechanisms, but it can only do so much to mitigate the unmindful choices we make when feeding and taking care of it. That plaque depositing process would cease after the initial potential life saving application if the behavior that lead to the emergency was discontinued. However, as the damage continues, more plaque gets deposited until eventually, a damaged area becomes clogged. So the next question would be : "what is damaging artery walls?" Mainly, diet choices and behaviors that result in High homocysteine levels, too much Omega 6 fatty acids in the diet, high levels of meat in the diet, high acid diets, high levels of circulating immune complexes (CICs), Inflammation in general, marked by high C-reactive protein levels. What's the best way to eliminate/mitigate these artery damaging elements? Plant-based diet and stress reduction are good starters that can go a long way.

    This is not my theory. I'm just posing it here as an alternative because I think there's some important answers, information and logic missing in the present theory.
