Preventing Prostate Cancer with Green Tea

A third of men in their 30s may already have tiny cancerous tumors in their prostates. How much tea would one have to drink to build up cancer suppressing levels in one’s prostate tissue?

CORRECTION: Thanks to Darryl’s eagle eyes, I realized my analysis of the in vitro data was off by three orders of magnitude. This suggests that the powerful clinical effect of green tea on prostate cancer isn’t a direct effect, since the concentrations of at least one green tea compound within the prostate tissue wouldn’t be high enough to suppress cancer growth, at least in a petri dish.<br />
Green tea is actually put to the test in cancer patients in my next video, Treating Prostate Cancer with Green Tea (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/treating-prostate-cancer-with-green-tea).

40 Risposte a “Preventing Prostate Cancer with Green Tea”

  1. Dr.Gregor my biology teacher has told me that this natural supplement known as Protandim NRF1 would help me and many other students in my school work out harder and have more energy, but seeing as its 40$ for about a months supply I want to know you're take on it. May you respond to this or make a video on it. please.
Here is their site if you're interested on looking into it https://www.lifevantage.com/products/protandim/nrf1/

  2. i'll never understand why people like green tea to me it tastes like absolute shit unless you put a lot of sugar in it in which case its not healthy.

  3. Tea ain't just flavour. Colour and aroma are important, too!
The best tea can also be enjoued wiv youre eyes and nose. That's wot I like.

  4. Doesn't look very promising to be honest… 6 cups of tea a day is a whole lot of green tea (and caffeine). As much as I like green tea, I never really drink more than 3 cups a day at the very most. 6 cups would equal about 2-3 cups of coffee in caffeine content. That would be on top of my morning black filter coffee already. I'd be jittery as hell. Not to mention the taste would start to get incredibly boring, I imagine.

  5. It drink 2 to 3 cups of green tea every day and last for over 10 years. However, you cannot be in good health without doing excerise .

  6. I like Life Extension's decafeinated green tea. It's equivalent to about 6–8 cups of tea I think. I open the cap to take it in 3-4 times to not overload the liver.

  7. Dear Dr Greger. I would be interested in your thoughts on the recently published study by Zhen Li et al, published in Thorax on 20 December, entitled 'Cured meat intake is associated with worsening asthma symptoms. I haven't been able to retrieve the article in Thorax as it is behind a paywall, but it has been reported in the mainstream press here in the UK. Hope you can cover this, in a video soon. Debs, UK based NutritionFacts.org fan.

  8. People, please do not drink the crappy bagged tea….drink MATCHA green tea because it is the ENTIRE LEAF you are consuming. Matcha tea is many times more potent than bagged tea. The cheapest bag is on Amazon. It is by a company called TMatcha. It is japanese tea which is better quality than Chinese Matcha.
Let the matcha powder brew in hot water, then add some orange juice and pour over ice. This results in Iced Matcha Tea with a flavor of orange juice.

  9. Dr. Greger In the future can you please provide links to the references, not just screen shots of them during the video?

This way we can read the actual study and provide them for people who ask

When I give people a link to the video it really isn't good enough as a form of evidence in debate. The people need to read what you read, not just hear your summary.

It should be very easy for you to list in the description of the video, the links to where people can read the original sources you are reading to draw your conclusions.

This will greatly improve people's confidence in this site as a resource.

    thanks

  10. I've only been taking the product for 5 days and have so far lost 3 pounds. I am taking weight loss green store tea . I have not experienced any side effects. I have noticed that I am not nearly as hungry and that my portions are way smaller, simply because I'm not very hungry.

  11. Cancer is the leading cause of death in Japan.
Japanese drink the most green tea. Stomach cancer is 5 times higher in Japan than in the United States. Don't believe drinking green tea will prevent cancer.

  12. In your previous video you said black tea and green tea has same effect in the body why you’re saying now green tea effect on prostate not black tea

Does black tea has same effect as green tea on
    Prostate Cel

  13. I tried green tea for my enlarged prostate and it never did anything significant. After a few months I nearly gave up but had an idea ? What if instead of just popping the teabag into hot water for a few minutes I stir the teabag for 2 minutes until the water turns very green instead of watery green tea, it worked, I can feel a difference in my water flow and 6 months later I do feel better for it.
After some research I discovered green tea reduces an enlarged prostrate by 25 percent considering the new steam therapy reduction is 50 percent, I've got a good result ! As far as I can see just consuming green tea without stirring for 2to 2 and a half minutes is no better than drinking plain hot water.

  14. green tea is anti inflammation in prostate(during letting water out or peeing ,cure and much less burning or pain) owing to antioxidant also preventing bladder, kidny stone and cure prostate enlargement.the same time works much better if men are vegetarian , like eating soy, fermented soy, and stay away from animal protein NB. green tea reduce dht(dehyro testosterone)which is main cause of prostate cancer/also enlargement
