  1. 2:00
    20% reduction + 60% reduction = 90% reduction? How that?
0,8×0,4=0,3. It should likely result in a 70% reduction.
At best, if the absolute fractions add up, it would be an 80% reduction.

  2. The comic Dr. Greger is a bad choice, I think.
It reduces the believability massively. Having an actual doctor on screen telling you the information was always what made nutritionfacts stand out

  3. Great information, just cooked some now. By the way, please stop making the creepy cartoon version of yourself. Your real self may be nerdy, but we like that, we are nerds too!

  4. Mushrooms should be used medicinally after processed for pharmaceutical or herbal medications. Eating them as food is not advisable. Humans are not chemically designed to consume fungi. Toxic compounds enter the bloodstream which must then be broken down by the body. It is possible that not ALL toxic compounds in mushrooms are known as of this date.

  5. The funniest part is that mycologist Paul Stamets discourages use of crimini or button mushrooms. And consistently mentioned to always cook them.
P..s I stopped using them. Prefer oyster mushroom, shitake

  6. I’ve consumed raw Shiitake, King Trumpet, Lions Mane, Portobello, etc. Haven’t noticed anything unusual but I guess I gotta start cooking them now 👀

  7. I was just eating some raw mushrooms the other day and was wondering about this. I have more mushrooms and was about to eat them raw again. A timely video to help me inch further into improvement. Thank you

  8. Penn State study from a few months ago : "The systematic review and meta-analysis examined 17 cancer studies published from 1966 to 2020….According to the findings, individuals who ate 18 grams of mushrooms — about 1/8 to 1/4 cup — daily had a 45% lower risk of cancer compared to those who did not eat mushrooms."

  9. The shiitake mushroom rash makes me wonder why it only affects the skin? Why it takes on that form? Or if it's doing something similar to underlying tissue or organs? 😕

  10. wait what is the drying process? dry baking in the oven? you'd suggest first baking it in the oven and then you'd boil them? for an hour? Sorry, just confused on how to approach this.

  11. I know someone who had that shiitake reaction, it's wild.
I was told by the person who taught me how to grow mushrooms that we should cook mushrooms mostly to break down the chitin for better absorption of nutrients.

  12. I've found that when i've eaten raw brown mushrooms i end up not feeling quite physically down. White mushrooms have never caused me any noticeable problems and i eat a lot. I'd be interested to know what the difference is in what they contain as the brown mushrooms definitely contain something that isn't so good.

  13. Weee, finally info that validates what I’ve been saying for nearly a decade! Despite poor info that has been spread in the past, the truth has finally come out! 🥳

It does, however, surprise me that Dr Greger, and other reputable doctors, don’t / haven’t mentioned an important point about the original studies done on mice showing that raw mushrooms shouldn’t be eaten. In those studies they not only used synthetic isolated agaritine (the possible carcinogen in mushrooms) but also administered it in amounts equivalent to a year’s worth of servings, that in one dose! Even then only coming to the conclusion “possibly” carcinogenic…🧐

As we know, even compounds found in certain fruits or greens isolated and at that dose could be carcinogenic and doesn’t consider the symphony of nutrients and co-nutrients in whole foods. Therefore, I hope you feel even safer eating and enjoying raw mushrooms!🙌🏼

Thanks Dr Greger and nutrition facts for diving into the most recent studies and putting out high quality content!🙏🏼

  14. So the takeaway is cook your mushroom in a microwave but do the health benefits outweigh the risks of consuming mushrooms cooked using different methods?

  15. I wonder how microwave compares to steaming. I use instapot to steam for 1 minute. Microwave is kinda good that it heats insides of the mushrooms, so maybe its more efficient.

  16. Agaritine by itself – after it is separated from its other constituents in a laboratory – may be a carcinogen but if it is BOUND to OTHER CONSTITUENTS in the whole FOOD the way it is grown in Nature, like we are supposed to be using for medicine, [Remember , "Let food be they medicine and medicine be they food" ~ Hippocrates], it is probably FINE. Some of these studies are a big fat waste of time and money producing little if any helpful information. They are used purely for marketing and fearmongering the public.

  17. Shiitake Dermatits happened to me! HOLY COW! I've always wondered what caused it because I only had it for a few weeks. THANK YOU DR G!!!

  18. I thought mushroom were supposed to be one of the most cancer protective foods, so shouldnt those two large studies see a huge reduction in cancer for those eating mushrooms? So joel fuhrman is just full of of it?

  19. https://youtu.be/HI76tB-5H3A?t=270 HAPPENED TO ME! onset of symptoms occurred over 24 hours after consumption, during which i had a second helping 🙁

incredibly itchy!! scratching would result in graphic dermatitis. hot showers, benedryl lotion and capsules helped. scalp also itched. took over 2 weeks for the symptoms to go away.

  20. I just want to say TAHNK YOU, Dr. Greger! I am appreciated for what you have done and what you are doing! I recently purchased the book "How not to die" It is really an eye-opening. For those not major in Bio or in med school, I learn a lot from you! I will keep learning and send the message to my family and friends. Best wishes to you and your family. Sincerely, Uhao.

  21. Could it be, that the benign substances in mushrooms drop at the same rate? I am not sure, if it really is a good idea to try to reduce the amount of agaritine as much as possible. For example when I cook mushrooms, the cooking water has a very intense brown color. I keep thinking, that there will probably be a lot of vitamins and other healthy substances in the cooking water as well.

  22. Impressed he has this on here but appears there is a much larger connection between tumors on lungs, liver and pancreas (I think pancreas) that is being suppressed.., i LOVE mushrooms and researched it .. i even paid $45 to get ability to see cited, reviewed papers (i need cancel that) but really appears it’s exactly what was stated but drop amount consumed way down and tumor rates way up. Some tumors are benign. It’s the white button shroom which like he said grow into portabellas And this really gross brain looking wild shroom just those from what I could find
    But … 🙁

  23. Hellllloooo there! Is there enough available evidence to do a video about how to cook Vitamin D mushrooms so as to keep the vitamin D most intact? Can I fry them?

  24. Just tossed them in the garbage. I’m eating healthy and saw on the internet they were healthy for you but I wanted to check YouTube first. So glad I did before even consuming one. Thanks again YouTube I will spread the word.

  25. But is the microwave just making water come out of the mushroom.
Is that how the microwave reduces that bad chemical?
and are there nutrients also being lost in that water because I normally do never discard water that comes out of vegetables when I cook them

I commenti sono chiusi.
