Ginkgo Biloba as a Brain Health Supplement for Dementia

The benefits of ginkgo for the brain: It does not seem to play a role in preventing cognitive decline or dementia, but it may play a role in treating it.

Unfortunately, the problems found in ginkgo supplements are by no means unique. See, for example, Dangers of Dietary Supplement Deregulation (https://nutritionfacts.org/video/dangers-of-dietary-supplement-deregulation/).<br />

26 Risposte a “Ginkgo Biloba as a Brain Health Supplement for Dementia”

  1. Fake supplements rule the world… why bother with any & risk dangerous unknown rubbish & pay exorbitantly for fakes? 👎 Spend the saved money on real whole healthy foods… 👍

  2. The comment about 1 in 6 supplements having no ginkgo in them always concerns me, with all supplements. Dr. Greger will often add you can get this food for pennies or this supplement is cheap, I've always wanted a Dr. Greger approved list or a where to finds these berries for pennies a day list or supplement brands that can be trusted. Could certainly see how this could be viewed as bias and some may say Dr Greger is under the thumb of Big Ginkgo, but has always been something I've been interested in.

  3. I’ve been waiting for you to do an episode on ginkgo! I started taking it recently to help improve blood flow to my brain after years of cannabis use. I’ve seen SO much benefit in terms of my ability to pay attention, my anxiety, my adhd symptoms, and how well I articulate my words. One weird thing I noticed is that it makes my dreams at night very vivid, and I wonder if it has an effect on REM sleep, especially for an ex-cannabis user.

I used to take multiple supplements and nootropics for focus and anxiety but after starting ginkgo I simply don’t need them anymore, in fact this is more effective and more affordable than anything I have taken.

It does seem to improve my memory a bit but I think it does so indirectly as I’m able to pay more attention to what people say to me and to where I put my items around the house.

Despite the knowledge that it doesn’t seem to improve dementia I strongly believe that it can improve brain function and quality of life in other ways. It has unexpectedly become my favorite supplement and it has replaced 5 other supplements I tried for the same effect.

Edit: I stopped cannabis use almost 8 months ago and I started taking ginkgo daily about 6 weeks ago. I noticed the more vivid dreams and improvement in memory after the first few months of quitting cannabis. However that subsided and other benefits plateaued. I still also struggled with anxiety and focus. I still took other focus nootropics and supplements like ashwaganda, bacopa, and other things to help improve my memory, anxiety, and focus after quitting. But the ginkgos effects these last few weeks have been so dramatic and nothing has been able to help me as much as it.

  4. If people won’t take pills they’re eating animals so stop demonising something that could save animals lives a supplement like magnesium helps sleep 💤

  5. In your How Not to Age book, it is stated that an LDL of 25mg/dl is protective against Alzheimer's disease. How is it possible to get a value that low ??

  6. I'm tired of these supplement videos that show that something doesn't work, but it does work, but it does matter cuz you can't trust what's in the bottle….. What's the point then??? 🙄

  7. It helps me acutely with cognitive symptoms of depression and anxiety.
I don't think it was ever touted as protective from the cognitive decline, more as a mean to improve focus and memory.

  8. Over a decade ag, I took some and it works by improving the blood flow, leaving the body in a state of warmth. Therefore it is ideal for the elderly and people on low incomes. Since then I've not been able to find it for sale, and being wholefood plant based vegan, I have not needed it. GB is the natural alternative to warefarin.

  9. Yeah it started like it's promising, but then no. They yes useful if already have dementia.
But the pills might be fake.
    But I do recommend it.
(I guess for if yiu already have dementia.
