(http://nutritionfacts.org/video/is-white-bread-good-for-you/). 1. It's just not easy to find whole grain breads in supermarkets. I paid $4 for a loaf of 12 grain bread that looked nutritious….until I read the ingredients. Yes, there are whole grains in it…you can see them, but otherwise it's just the same fake wheat bread with all the chemicals. I need a hearth so I can make my own!

  2. Inb4 dozens of Paleo dieters start screaming about lectins, phytic acid, and other assorted topics they don't understand. Merry Christmas, Dr. Greger.

  3. It didn't mention whether these whole grains are cooked or raw. What effect does high heat have on these grain nutrients? And what about sprouted grains?

  4. I bought some lentils to make soup and put them in a bowl to soak overnight. The bags of dried lentils were fairly small, so I thought I'd need two for my crock pot. I forgot about them in the bowl, for about four days. When I remembered, I thought "I'll bet they're spoiled". They hadn't. They had increased in size 5 fold and were sprouting. So I ate them raw! Sprouting grains or lentils or beans make great anti-oxidants! Buy raw grains and let them soak…forget about them for a few days.

  5. Make your own bread: Pour 3 cups of lukewarm water into a container. Add 1.5 tablespoons of yeast and a bit less than 1.5 tablespoons of salt (you can also add rosemary or other herbs here if you like). Mix it all up with around 6 cups of flour. Cover but don't make it airtight for around 2 hours, then sprinkle the whole thing with flour and make loaves the size of grapefruit by taking each loaf and flipping the dough to the bottom of each loaf, forming a nice ball. Bake at 350 until brown.

  6. Sounds good…but what about the flour? I think the idea is to stay away from regular flour, and finding whole grain flour is impossible unless you live in a large city that sell those kinds of products. When I was in college in NYC, there used to be kiosks for every foreign group of people and the foods they ate in the country they came from. It was great. But now I live in the country, and the pickings are mighty slim! There used to be farms here…but nobody farms anymore, thanks to Monsanto!

  7. bb3xhrhj is just going to lie in bed for seven days. He/she will be so weak after 7 days without food, he might even reach nirvana!

  8. Huh… I would try doing half white flour and half oatmeal… or maybe 1/4 oatmeal… I do that sometimes and I can't even tell it's there.

  9. You do NOT need a hearth: all you need is a regular oven. Preparation of nutritious food is a fairly simple matter, and thinking you "need" complicated equipment (such as a hearth) only postpones–or worse, *prevents*–taking steps to carry out that preparation.

  10. doesn't that further prove how good the fiber in whole grains are? Can't digest fiber, there for it helps push out all that other junk in your intestines out?

  11. Actually no not even close. the undigested proteins in the wheat get into your intestines. they are undigested and harm your villi. Enough of this happening will lead to you having no villi and no way to absorb nutrients which will quickyl devolve into a diseased state since you can't get nutrients. Nutrient deficiency is the cause of all disease

  12. People, why don't you just make the bread home?I'm 21 and I make it with whole wheat flour/ oats and buckwheat flour+karob powder. As black as it can get.Still, for some time now,I feel the need to eat till I can't move, maybe I'm addicted to bread, haha.

  13. i don't think i am a grain guy. I eat white rice when I don't have enough fruit because a big portion of brown rice hurts my tummy. taters are the best, but you can't beat a 20lb bag of rice for 10 bucks

  14. lol I'm sorry, white rice increasing the chance of type 2 diabetes? Yeah maybe if you ate white rice with meat and dairy. If white rice increased the chance of type 2 diabetes, then why doesn't most of china have type 2 diabetes?

  15. just make your own bread at home so you have complete control of what's in it. it's fun and with a little experimentation you can come up with a bread that you really like rather than settling for something from a store. the house i live in has an old stove and the oven doesn't work. still, i make good bread in a cheap convection toaster oven. lots of rosemary leaves from a nice houseplant in the crust. smells great.

  16. lower than eating the white rice, NOT lower than eating NONE OF IT.  SKIP the grains and you will drop your risk dramatically.  This is styled to make it LOOK as if eating whole grains are actually GOOD FOR YOU.. but they are NOT!  Listen closely and actually LOOK at the study and you will see the truth.

  17. When it comes to bread, I'm still confused as to whether whole grain flour is as good as whole grains? I am able to get flour-less from Trader Joe's and I'm thinking that's the best way to go.

I get that a certain portion of the population didn't acquire the ability to digest grains, but I absolutely thrive on them!

  18. your videos are so addictive to watch! ive watched at least 20 in the last few hours! thank you so much for this interesting content- im trying to better myself, and food is a major part of that 🙂

  19. Dr. Gregor, Does the high arsenic content in brown rice make it comparatively worse than white rice, say, if eaten regularly with a vegetarian stir fry?

  20. I understand this, the whole food chain is infected on some level with the GMO tech. Then add the chemicals that are sprayed on the crops, add to this the residues from the chemtrails you are doomed to eat grain at all.We live in a different time not the 1960's. We are in a very toxic toxic era. And please do not forget Fukisima, we are getting radiation from Japan. You can eat your grains but I wont.

  21. Oh except for CC cookie whom I agree with entirely
We dont know about the whole Gmo thingand Id rather not .
..but even though most of our food has been tampered with ad adfinitum…
we still must eat . So be careful , pay attention , pay your dime and take your best shot .
    Good Luck .

  22. Isn't there a video Dr. Greger produced called, "What about the China study?" In the video he cited that the meat consumption tripled in 2000. White rice and fruit lower all those diseases. DON'T ARGUE UNTIL YOU WATCH, PLEASE!

  23. This is actually dangerous advice (to eat whole grains).

Modern grains are just processed junk only recently introduced within the industrial era (the grains eaten prior to that point were VASTLY different) and are all GMO, pesticide ridden, gluten loaded, junk food.

The opposite of what Gregor is saying is actual true, if you remove grains from your diet than it becomes as effective as taking a drug. The problem is that grains are extremely addictive (thanks to their opioid like addictive compounds) hence why almost everyone (even those with lot's of diseases) eat whole grains/wheat bread on a daily basis yet still remain sick.

There is absolutely nothing that is beneficial in grains that you can not find in abundance in other natural plant based foods, especially dark green leafy vegetables.

I've been grain free for over a week now and I feel at such ease it's amazing. The benefits from removing grains can be potentially life saving for some people.

  24. The USA Rice Federation says, "Studies show that including white or brown rice in the diet provides measureable health benefits that outweigh the potential risks associated with exposure to trace levels of arsenic." Consumer Reports food safety experts believe those levels do carry a risk.

  25. fruit loops seems high in sugar. what about wholegrain bread or brown rice cakes? they seem as they can be digested fast. I don't know if they are good for your well being. would be nice to know

  26. Something you should know folks, is that in Randomised Controlled Trials they were useless. Association studies are in comparison, useless. They don't work.

  27. cereal is a joke…it used to say made with whole wheat grains…now it just says "whole grains", and you go read the ingredients…sure enough "whole grain corn" what the FUCK is whole grain corn!!!

  28. it's been about two years since I had froot loops, they used to be my favorite, but after changing my diet, a bowl of steel cut oatmeal with bananas, pecans, and cinnamon sounds more appetizing

  29. Eat plant based whole foods. If you're naturally skinny and/or an athlete you can eat more grains and potatoes. If you naturally hold fat, cut them down/out. All of these comments make me sick. Everyone is different. We should all eat a shit ton of veggies, fruit, and fungi. If you need more calories, eat grains. After you become diabetic, your body doesn't process sugars and starches as well BECAUSE OF THE FAT BLOCKING insulin receptors. You should eat mainly vegetables and fungi (some low glycemic fruit) at this point, but the lipids will be cleared in time. Eventually, grains can be reintroduced. That is if you have type 2. Type 1 is caused by environmental factors (stress, smoking, whatnot) and gene expression. A study in India proved plant based whole food diets along with stress managment (meditation and breathing exercises A.K.A. oxygen therapy) to down regulate 452 "bad" genes and up regulate 48 "good" genes in over 50 cancer patiets with no radiation, surgery, or chemo. Not all of the bad genes were cancer related, but rather diabetes type 1 and other diseases. My sister beat stage 4 liver cancer with a change in diet (not even vegan, but whole foods, but I still reccomend avoiding animal products for heart health and preventing t2d), oxygen therapy, and meditation/prayer. Read some scholarly journals with your own eyeballs instead of blogs and second hand articles, you uneducated, blathering guppies.

  30. Eziekiel Bread is sprouted grains. Eat lots of that along with 2 bowls of oatmeal evert day, with berries, amla, pumpkin spices, cardamom, black pepper, almonds, peppermint leaves, kidney beans, ground flaxseed, sometimes ground sunflower seeds, purple sweet potato, and carob powder. Pack as much nutrition in 1 bowl. No wheat belly, no weight gain, blood work gets better and better each time I go to Dr's. Every 6 months. If have gluten problem, heal gut bacteria 1st, with whole food plants, and tons of antioxidant/fiber rich food, then slowly add some sprouted whole grains. Worked for me.

  31. I ate whole grain bread my whole life, until my early 40's when I was bloating in the end of every day. I tested not eating different foods to see what was causing it. Turned out to be gluten.

I can't tell if this always was a problem but since gluten can cause a leaky gut and occasional light astma completely disapeared as well since I quit gluten, I think it's always been a problem.

So much for grains being healthy because I always thought they were. After more research I'm convinced that even without gluten sensitivity it is wise not to eat too much of it.

  32. Then you ask, how come no one told me about this years ago!!!???!!!!!
Because the truth doesn’t make money. Drugs and the SAD do.
Thank you, Dr. Gregor for sharing these priceless pieces of information that is truly life saving.
