  1. That makes sense. I have been vegan for a year but I eat too much potatoes, rice and bread and also some sweets and flour sometimes. I need to incorporate more greens and beans to eliminate my insulin problems and lose weight 🙂

  2. Will meat eaters read the "limiting animal products to 12 oz/week" as,
'See? See? I don't need to give up meat! All those plant based doctors are wrong.'
    Definitely cherry-picking, yes?

  3. I'm type 1 diabetic and can testify to the power of plant based diets. I increased my insulin sensitivity by 300% with a high carb, low fat, low protein, high fibre, whole food, plant based diet.

  4. My mom and dad both had a stomach reduction surgery because otherwise they die, obviously. Both diabetic, etc. They now 'fixed' the 'problem' of not 'getting enough food' by eating more callory dense food, more often. forehead slap. I'm going to lose my folks. What can i do. They just keep packing in even worse garbage and more often and wonder why their expensive surgery on our collective input hasn't worked. I would totally vote for a rule that says, if you don't manage to get healthy and lean after X amount of time after surgery, (excluding any mental or genetic issues, of course) you will have to pay back the medical bill yourself. Lets see how many people suddenly get the message.

This is not about 'fat shaming', it's about the extreme rise in medical and societal costs. My medical insurance now almost costs as much as my rent every month and it's mandatory, we don't get a choice in Europe. My generation is being financially decimated by the previous generation, sitting in their fat cars, and giant homes, eating a kings meal 5 times a day, see a doctor twice a week and our generation can't even afford ourselves the basics, never mind wanting to start a family, because life…. just costs too much. Think about it. I'm healthy and lean but i pay for all of this. Plus… my folks are going to die way before their time. Just waiting for the phonecall… any day now. I won't be surprised and i won't cry. I grieve over them every day already. I'll just shake my head and move on with my day. Such a shame there is no sensible, long term follow-up and nutrition counseling for these people. All of it has gone to waste and it's not something they can repeat. They had one shot at it, they missed. I can't even eat their food. Everything she cooks is brown, stuffed with meat and sauce and overcooked vegetables and starch is 'bad for you and makes you fat', mmhmm, yeah….

Thank you sincerely, Dr. Greger, for enlightning the rest of us.
Preventive diet is the way forward in medicine.

  5. I did the starvation diet 600 cal a day for 2 monthes as the Newcastle study described and it worked. I didn't have great willpower just enormous fear. Perhaps Drs should check which of their patients are scared enough.

  6. Hello Doctor I am going to college to become a RD is that a good job field to enter and what are they daily tasks no one has been able to answer that for me.

  7. These sorts of revelations (no news to Gerson advocates*) seem to beg the "threshold" questions: how much bad stuff can I continue to consume? How much wine? How much meat? How much milk in my latte or granola? How much butter on my toast? How much?
So, is there a nutritionfacts.org video on these threshold questions?

  8. Can you please make a video discussing the accuracy of the Cronometer app that many vegans and non-vegans use to track their daily nutritional intake? Would relying on this app to guide one's diet be more harmful than good?
    Thank you!

  9. my mom takes care of an old man. he has diabetes. she stated giving him oatmeal three times a day an now he doesn't take insulin. though he does have to eat on time or his blood sugar will drop

  10. These videos should be broadcast on television every single day. Imagine the effect on the worlds health if that happened. Just love these video`s. Speaking the truth and smashing through the lies told us by big business and the health services, oh sorry, they are one in the same thing.

  11. It's almost as if diabetes, cardiovascular disease, etc. are VOLUNTARY diseases. If you choose to eat a poisonous diet, you get the disease. If you choose to eat a plant-based diet, you don't. It's up to you. Thanks, Dr. Greger, for another great vid.

  12. It's not often I'm impressed but this video really caused me to say wow I need to ask – did viewers realise there is new cure

people all over the world are improving thier condition I found out about this from reading website take a look now search google for Diabetes Crusher Tactic

  13. Some studies have shown meat eaters who consume fruit and veg, but specifically lowered their red meat, have less incidences of diabetes. I have seen studies which have shown vegetarians to suffer more cases of cancer, allergies, mental disorders and a host of diseases more than meat eaters. My point? There are many factors involved, not just diet! Environment, quality of any food, sleep, exercise, stress management and exposure/elimination of toxins.

  14. ..Thanks for all your video presentations ! I watch them, regularly.
I have undertaken a low carb diet and am losing almost a pound a day, which will surely help my diabetes and copd. Thank you very much for your inspiration. rc

  15. Have you guys ever heard of judging a study by not just whether it works, but by whether people do the diet. For example, I heard a critique (I believe by Campbell of Fuhrman) that said he should include people he counseled but that did not follow the diet. That sounds strange. I guess then you're testing both the efficacy of the diet and whether people will follow it based on counseling, but I think, for the people who actually want to follow it, they'd be interested in how well it works – I mean if you actually follow it. I think we can all agree that listening to motivational speeches about exercising isn't going to anything for us if we don't go exercise. I suppose we could measure whether they actually motivate people.

  16. Guys, it works. And we can eat as much as we want. We just have to emphasize (or restrict ourselves to) certain foods – unrefined plants. Particularly high nutrient low calorie ones – greens (lettuce, kale, broccoli), non starchy veggies (onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, cauliflower), beans, and fruit. And some starchy veggies, whole (intact) grains, And some nuts and seeds. Unlimited fruit! Small amounts of nuts and seeds. We can even have a small amount of animal foods or refined plant foods (less than 10% of total calories – not much – but we don't have to completely give up something, if that's a sticking point). (The 10% isn't necessarily what's best for optimal health or what's maximally ethical, but just an allowance, so we don't get freaked out and not even do what we can.) You can choose how healthy you want to be. I think as healthy as possible is a good choice, but even eating 50% of your calories from whole plant foods should cut your heart disease, cancer, and dieabetes progression in half. And that's very significant. Obviously 90% sounds much better, but if it's a choice between 50% (or whatever) and none, go for as much as you can. One thing though, it can actually be easier to give up junk food by giving it up entirely. When you only eat healthful foods, and don't eat addictive junk foods, your taste buds improve, and cravings go away. It's why AA recommends not drinking at all. It's easier. And conversely trying to have a drink once in a while would cause a lot of recovering alcoholics to completely relapse. It's not really a good goal. But, again, if it's a sticking point, shoot for 90%. Don't use, "I can't give up ___" as an excuse to not eat as much healthful foods as you can. In practice, you can eat the healthful ones first, and then if you still want to eat the junk food later. It's like, I'll stay sober today, and if I want to relapse tomorrow, I'll do it then. It gets you through the day. And after a good nights sleep (maybe a meeting or whatever), it might not seem important the next day. Run the gambit, large salad, bean chili, frozen mango blended into a a sorbet – I mean you might be pretty satisfied after a healthful feast. Secondly, if you still eat the junk, you might eat less after stuffing yourself on healthful foods. I think the main thing, more than unhealthful cravings, is simply knowledge and practice. You have to do it for awhile, before you know what to make, and before you get used to it. Watching yourself get leaner, and watching symptoms of diseases go away, and getting off medication, don't exactly hurt motivation, either. Embrace it.

  17. Go join any keto or low carb Facebook group. Search A1C. Virtually all of the people on low carb diets for about 3 months or more have also lowered their A1C to non-diabetic numbers. So again, Mr. Greger, why the recommendation for no animal products? Why the dogma?

  18. I was having some symptoms luckily my Doc says i don't have Diabetes just slightly high cholesterol. Regardless I changed up my diet and started exercising already feeling better.

  19. It pains me to see such important studies done on only 13 patients. No seriously. It should be easy to find enough diabetics to enroll.

  20. Last year, our team of doctors at the ICTM helped 17,542 type 2 diabetics end the need for prescription drugs, insulin injections and blood sugar monitoring. This year we are on track to help over 30,000 diabetics achieve "the impossible".

  21. Hey everyone, wants to know more about curing diabetes the best results that I have had is called the Diabetes Crusher Tactic (look for it on google) definately the most useful guide i've had.

  22. Curious: Did they do low carb veggies, or did they have the 3 servings of whole grains, 3 servings of beans and Fruit? The other question I would have is: when did they eat their food: Spread through the day, in two meals or all at once in one meal?

  23. I am living proof that Type 2 Diabetes can be reversed. My heaviest recorded weight was 276 lbs. I just now weighed myself, 170.6 lbs. Along the journey of sweating off the pounds I have cured myself of diabetes, high blood pressure and maintain cholesterol levels my physicians are envious of.
My commitment to riding my bicycle as much as possible, instead of driving a motor vehicle, was a huge factor in my success, but that's another story. I changed my diet as well and in the span of a couple of years was pronounced to be non-diabetic. I haven't tested my blood sugars in years.
I never used any medication for diabetes.
Since then I have made more changes, avoid wheat of all kinds, my diet is now primarily (90%+) vegan and I shun processed foods. I have a cooked yummy porridge for breakfast and the rest of my meals tend to be raw salads – made from scratch of course, and fruit, nuts and seeds.
I do eat other things occasionally, including meat.

  24. Excellent video content! Sorry for chiming in, I would love your thoughts. Have you ever tried – Patlarny Sugar Outcome Principle (should be on google have a look)? It is a good one of a kind product for reversing diabetes minus the headache. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my cooworker after a lifetime of fighting got amazing success with it.

  25. oatmeal/barley with fruit
big salad with nut/seed dressing, fruit
    vegetable bean soup, fruit
steamed/stewed greens with other veg, fruit

This doesn't seem like enough daily calories to me. Is it?

  26. 5 years T2D, managed to reverse DM in 3 weeks.
    Fasting 1am to 6:30 pm.
    Food:
On green salad. Vegetable soup. Little chicken. Water. Sea salt. Grapefruit and dates.
    Nothing else.
    🙂

  27. My father in law just had his leg was due to infection caused by diabetes…but that's not the worst part. In addition to ignoring the scores on his leg, his feet had been numb for a while. While he was sleeping his little dog nawed off his toes. He woke up…that's when he finally went to the doctor. Evidently the infection was so bad to his dog, his toes smelled like rotting meat. No joke. I literally just found this out an hour ago. He's 72 years old.

  28. This “Vαnοjο Fivu” (Google it) is considered the most sensible and easy to follow plan for overall health and also healing diabetes. Thru this plan, you could transform your lifestyle and diet without getting particular about your carb or calorie. My transition to a more healthy way of life has not only helped me lose fat but also overcome diabetic issues and high blood pressure! It is correct that you truly could reverse diabetes…

  29. This “Vαnοjο Fivu” (Google it) can help you gain a healthier way of life and become free from diabetic issues as well. The manual have taught me concerning how cells aren`t able to feed on glucose because of fat. ”Vαnοjο Fivu” (Search Google) has helped me treat diabetic issues and avoid its serious and even lethal results..

  30. Great news that it can be reversed. Though Dr G will never admit it he just described the Ketogenic diet! Lower starchy carbs, optional 10% cals from animal products (repeat optional, it can all be done with plants) and the rest of the calories from a WFPB diet plus good fats. Outstanding!

  31. Appreciate Video clip! Apologies for the intrusion, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you thought about – Patlarny Sugar Outcome Principle (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is a smashing one off product for reversing diabetes without the normal expense. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my friend Sam at very last got excellent results with it.

  32. Swapped to a Plant Based Whole Food diet because of my partner's heart problems and with my medication my HbA1C dropped to 5.8 and so I came off one of my drugs – initially the plan was to do it slowly with lots of blood sugar monitoring but when my measurements were coming out critically low – I took myself completely off the sulfonuryl I was taking – telling my diabetologist and checking three times daily that things did not creep up again. I have had the odd spike when I was ill and didn't take my medication etc. but otherwise I have been in the "green" zone – what my app on my phone considers "healthy".

  33. The claim is misleading. You can reverse the effects of diabetes and lower your blood sugar into non diabetic levels and they will stay there as long as you stay on the diet. It does not reverse diabetes and it does not cure you of diabetes. Getting your blood sugars down does cure you of the symptoms of diabetes.
How would I know? If you have diabetes and you've managed to get your A1C under 6 and you have a friend that does not have diabetes who has an A1C of under 6…. The person without diabetes can go on a high carb and high sugar diet for years and may not ever develop an insulin resistance and not develop diabetes. The diabetic cannot go back on a high carb high sugar diet without spiking their blood sugar level. If they ignored their blood sugar on a daily basis and continued on the same diet that got them diabetes they're A1C would climb back into dangerous territory in less than three months.
It's for this reason that you get so much kickback because your claim is that you're reversing diabetes when in fact all your reversing is the effects of diabetes.

  34. Cheers for the video content! Sorry for the intrusion, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you heard the talk about – Patlarny Sugar Outcome Principle (just google it)? It is an awesome one of a kind product for reversing diabetes without the headache. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my m8 at last got excellent results with it.

  35. It's the processedrefined carbohydrates and sugars that are the real problem. The elimination of these is what the Keto, Paleo, Plant Based and other diets are based upon. Just stop eating all the processed carbs, processed meats, and sugars. It's really that simple.

  36. My doc told me type 2 was not reversable after a few years of worsening weight and increasing meds I went ketovore lost 50 lbs in 5 months in off meds and a1c is 5.4
