Is It Possible to Reverse Aging and Live Forever?

Some animals, like the immortal jellyfish, can effectively live forever, so why can’t we?

A few weeks ago, I released the book trailer for How Not to Age (https://nutritionfacts.org/video/book-trailer-for-how-not-to-age), which comes out on December 5. Check out the video if you missed it!

Whether you’re striving to live long enough to live forever or just trying to die still feeling young, as old as possible, preorder How Not to Age here (https://nutritionfacts.org/book/how-not-to-age/). (All proceeds I receive from the sales of all of my books are donated to charity.)<br />

79 Risposte a “Is It Possible to Reverse Aging and Live Forever?”

  1. A better question is how can we avoid the transhumanist immortality program that's being implemented by the world economic forum ? Anyone who wants to live forever must have no spiritual path or religion.

  2. Honestly, looking at the state of our world (wars, climate crisis, inflation, mental health crisis, etc.), who in their right mind would wanna live forever? That's certainly not something I wanna strive for… I just wanna be as healthy and happy as possible.

  3. The cure to death is a lot of big and small cures to everything that kills us or breaks our bodies.
It would be insane to reach the escape velocity of aging in the next hundred years!

  4. Why would you want to? If you go on to another life, and leave this one, you will have a new identity, a rebirth in spirit and a new body. Makes sense. I take a low, weekly dose of Rapamycin and I actually feel more energetic even though i eat everything in moderation.😮

  5. Do you recommend glycine supplementation? And why do we need to balance methionine with glycine and what is the ideal ratio to have between these two amino acids?

  6. From my layman perspective it looks to be all about accrued cell damage. It's like we benefit from a natural spike until you are adult, where your cells get replaced and vices/habits can be tolerated, until hitting the peak where they are not and they begin accrue damage or less efficiency. So, it sort of looks that what was once on auto-pilot, now needs to be actively maintained by the person. Most people are not sufficiently educated to do that, so the damage just accelerates without the active maintenance. But that is treatment, I'd say. A different programming in our cells might be needed to keep us young, or maybe that programming decays as we pass the peak.

  7. The curious thing about us humans is we see something that has not been done before and we say it's impossible. But then if someone comes along and does it, all of a sudden more people can do it! Case in point Sir Edmund Hillary was the first to climb Mt. Everest in 1953. After that, so many people have climbed it there is actually a litter problem!

  8. I'd rather let this tent I live in fold and blow away. Then my spirit can dwell within the King of Kings, who loves me and gave up is only Son that I may have eternal life.

  9. living forever is too painful i just wanna try to age so i don't have chronic illness in old age and suffer even more than i have too

  10. My mother eats her own version of the nutritarian diet style and has experienced amazing results. I plugged her bloodwork test values into the Levine Biological Age Calculator (Yale) and she has aged minus 18 years during the last 4 years. I joke with her that she may be required to give up her Social Security benefits if she keeps going like that. Her recent hs-CRP test which measures inflammation was 0.4 mg/L which is half the test result of a typical 18 year old.

  11. Everyone will be made immortal in the end. God is a savior of ,,,Everyone,,, especially believers.
1 Corinthians 15: 51 Listen , I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52in an instant, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53For the perishable must be clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality.
54When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable and the mortal with immortality,g then the saying that is written will come to pass: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”
55“Where, O Death, is your victory?
Where, O Death, is your sting?”i
56The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!

  12. If it became possible to live forever, the battle between good and evil will be truly epic. And all gods, though imaginary, and their followers will be on the evil side.

  13. Nah……from a religious perspective, God designed us to age and die and join him in the afterlife, so regardless of how hard we try to keep from dying, as I'm sure many extremely wealthy people have tried to find the fountain of youth to no avail, we are all going to die and have to face our creator, there is no getting around it (unless of course you are an atheist and think you won't be meeting your creator after you die and if so I feel sorry for you if you think that way.). I will say though, there is nothing wrong with wanting to live a healthy production life span while you are here and to do positive things for other to make this world a better place.

  14. Back in the 1980's there were claims that scientists tested cells and found that given the proper nutrition cells can keep dividing/renewing until 120 years of age. That's the max humans can possibly live and yes, that's possible.

  15. So exciting that this anti-aging story is coming now with this book and the videos. Whole food plant-based nutrition is the way, and it’s so great it’s finally getting recognition.

  16. David Sinclair, a geneticist at Harvard University, has been building on Nobel prize winning research to reverse the age of organs and entire organisms using the epigenetic theory of aging.
Curing age-related blindness in mice, and making old mice have more energy to run further than young mice, all without causing any cancer or other health issues in the mice.
They can, at will, speed up or reverse the aging of mice in the lab, and every other species they've tested, and human trials have just begun.
In his book, "Lifespan: Why We Age and Why We Don't Have to," he says the research has advanced enough that he believes the first person on record who will live to 150 has already been born.
And this won't be something only the rich can afford. It's cheap chemicals found in foods like cruciferous vegetables and red wine, NMN and resveratrol, which have to be consumed in concentrated amounts to have a measurable effect, and resveratrol is absorbed best when mixed in with a fat like olive oil.
And he does advocate for a vegetarian diet as well because of the negative effects meat has on epigenetic aging.

  17. I think in the situation where humans are living hundreds upon hundreds of years, our society would adopt "century assessments" where people are given thorough psychological workups and physicals, to determine whether they wish to go for another century, or call it quits. Of course, governments will use this as a means of covertly thinning out the population. Seems like a plot to an Aldous Huxley novel.

  18. Retirement planners remind people that 85% of people in the US will need at least 6 months of very expensive long term care, and it’s not paid for by Medicare. According to the NIH 82% of US adults are overweight or obese. Coincidence? Vegans on average have much less fat. Excess fat, especially visceral fat, fuels so many chronic debilitating diseases.

  19. I can't imagine anyone who has given it serious thought would want to live forever. Not that I don't want to live a long, long time. I do. But forever? I don't think so.
How would that work? Would we return ourselves to our physical best year and keep that body? Would we become older and older but just not die? Either way we end up with a world dominated by very old people or aging would stop in our teens, or early twenties, and the world would be filled with just that. If we weren't aging, how would our view of the world change?
I understand that this isn't some curse of immortality, where we could never die. So that would mean that we would still face the risks of dying from accident or violence. Some virus that overwhelms our defenses. Some natural disaster. Suicide.
I suspect most would give it up soon enough anyway, and just use the mastery of science to delay their deaths until they felt complete. We can do that now, with good diet and some luck. It will be our conscious that will wish to quit. We might someday come to passing our bodies on to others, but exiting in spirit.

  20. Did NOBEL PRIZE WINNER & frequently quoted Paul Krugman Say the Internet's Effect on the World Economy Would Be

'No Greater Than the Fax Machine's'?
    “Yes”- source Snopes.

Also, In an e-mail to Business Insider in 2013, Krugman said it was part of a piece he contributed to New York Times Magazine.

  21. My understanding is experts in the field are pretty unified that there is nothing in the next 10 or 20 years that will make much difference. Good evidence we can slow down the rate of decline and have a better health span.

  22. Mom passed away 9/15 at 103½. I cared for her in my home for 22 years. She had a heart attack at 81 and docs gave her all bad news after that. But they were wrong. I lead her to a vegetarian diet which she loved and even stopped fish within a year, because she didn't like it anymore. She had 2 eggs/wk and some cheese once a week, otherwise fruit, vegetables, grains, legumes, nuts/seeds and fungi. She died peacefully in my arms: no pain, no suffering, she just went to sleep and her heart stopped. No end-of-life narcotics. She enjoyed two YouTube videos of the History of the Phoenicians and the city of Alexandria the night before she died and she was joking with me just a few hours before she passed. She was happy, loving, humorous and comfortable to the very end. I miss her. 💜 [I'm whole food plant-based for nearly 50 years now and tried to get her to ease off the eggs and cheese. But in the end it was always her choice. Who knows how long she might have lived.].

  23. Cars can live forever, as long as there are supply of spare parts and mechanic to fix the car. But can people live forever? There are no supply of spare parts and no mechanic of human body (Doctors are just pretenders). No, there is no way humans can live forever unless they can turn themselves into machines.

  24. The good doctor’s book might not be intended to keep people from dying ever, but I know a book that’s designed for that very purpose. That book tells the story about Jesus of Nazareth who said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.” The book is the Bible, and it tells us many wonderful things about the God who created all the intricately designed systems in the body (and the universe). The book is a best seller and tells us that we are awesomely and wonderfully made by the direct handiwork of God. It’s worth checking out. 😊

  25. this video doesnt answer the premise of the title at all, I would love Dr Greger to put out a video on the feasability of never-ending telomere therapy, on the hayflick limit, on why cant we make a cell immortal in the body without it turning cancerous etc …..
these are interesting topics, and can be combined with nutritional advice

  26. I know I well live forever. I am a spirit living in a soul housed in a body. It's not whether we do or don't, it's a matter of where you live it. Hope you find your way Dr. Greger, love you❤

  27. I love the expression- ‘Die young as long as possible’- that sums it all all up ! Thanks for all you do and your playful attitude towards a serious subject. 👌🏾👍🏾

  28. Literally every generation of humans have had some reason to think they weren't going to die and would live forever. At least ours is slightly more realistic, but it's all the same fallacy.

  29. “Problems are soluble. (…) Everything that is not forbidden by the laws of nature is achievable given the right knowledge*.” — David Deutsch, The Beginning of Infinity
[*I’d rather say: right intentions, attitude, motivation, knowledge and resources]

“A 3-D printer with the resolution of one atom would be able to print a human if it was given the right program.” — David Deutsch, Making Sense Podcast #022

“What I call optimism is the proposition that all evils are due to a lack of knowledge, and that knowledge is attainable by the methods of reason and science.” — David Deutsch

“It is a mistake to conceive of choice and decision-making as a process of selecting from existing options according to a fixed formula. That omits the most important element of decision-making, namely the creation of new options.” — David Deutsch, The Beginning of Infinity

“The possibilities that lie in the future are infinite. When I say ‘It is our duty to remain optimists,’ this includes not only the openness of the future but also that which all of us contribute to it by everything we do: we are all responsible for what the future holds in store. Thus it is our duty, not to prophesy evil but, rather, to fight for a better world.” — Karl Popper, The Myth of the Framework

“Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge: it is those who know little, not those who know much, who so positively assert that this or that problem will never be solved by science.” — Charles Darwin, The Descent of Man

“As Jacob Bronowski said, “Man is not a figure in the landscape—he is the shaper of the landscape.” In other words, humans are not playthings of cosmic forces, we are users of cosmic forces.” — David Deutsch, After billions of years of monotony, the universe is waking up (2019 TED Talk) [02:38]

  30. Gotta be careful not to fall in with the full-body-scan, monitor & optimize everything all the time, spend big money to live forever crowd. The eternal life scene is full of con artists and egomaniacs who will not only spread false information, but also cheat people out of their money. Gotta make sure to distinguish whatever vegan advocates, like Dr. Greger, are writing about from that toxic rabbit hole.

  31. I agree this is likely possible… There are many known living things that don't experience much cellular aging after all…

  32. I have a tree with the Tellomeres on. When one eat from the fruits of the tree it will heal any disease. It will also assist in growing one's Tellomeres longer for eternal youth one will get DNA that is dis-ease resistant and many more benefits. Do also know when one get the oil from the Apples seeds one will get true Soma Elixer of Life and Amrita. I have pictures I can share if somone is intrested. I also have a Sotne Crystal with a bottle on of the Elixirs of Life and many more such items. Do even Have 2 Genies in their lamps
