Is Soy Milk the Most Nutritious Non-Dairy Milk?

Soy milk is compared to dairy milk and other plant-based milks.

99 Risposte a “Is Soy Milk the Most Nutritious Non-Dairy Milk?”

  1. I keep going back to try soy milk but I react badly. I thought maybe it's the additives but, no, tofu is even worse – stomach pain for days. Of course my reaction to dairy is even worse. Despite my reaction to soy, my reaction to other legumes is fine, except split peas seem to mess with my blood sugar. Why don't they make garbanzo milk or black bean milk? (Why do all milks have to be white?) But I don't do well with any milk. Maybe it's the processed nature…
I've decided to go raw plus cooked beans. Curried legumes are the best!

  2. I absolutely hate how society somehow decided that cow's milk is 100% necessary for human health.

It makes no sense at all. Drinking for the udder of cattle is frankly weird, it took us thousands of years just to evolve to digest it.

  3. The concerns over estrogen should alone give men pause before consuming soy on a daily basis. If you must, keep it to once a week. The science is all over the place, so it’s hard to say for sure, but the possible dangers are great enough that we should avoid it for now.
Oat milk is better anyway. Learn how to use amylase and make your own as good as the commercial brands, it’s fun.

  4. Great to see that Canada has moved in the right direction and has removed industry funded studies when creating their dietary guidelines. The fact that so many people are lactose intolerance is very informative. Milk (breast milk) certainly is for babies.

  5. I first got into plant-centric nutrition with Dr. Fuhrman 15 years ago. The chapter on cow’s milk was frightening. The first major shift I made was from cow’s milk to soy milk. I don’t drink it much and primarily use it with my oatmeal. I keep an eye on the latest research and I’m still convinced that soy milk is the best option…especially regarding protein which I need as a senior. I do still occasionally use cow’s milk yogurt, but the newer products of nut milk kiefer and yogurt are probably better options. Haven’t given up real cheese yet. The fake cheeses can’t come close.

  6. As for the "least processed" argument: I make my own raw almond milk, in less than 4 minutes. Water, almonds, end of list.
(sweeteners can be added, I usually use it for fruit smoothies, or porridge with bananas, so no extra sugar needed)

  7. There is no such thing as Soy "milk". Milk is only from breast. Your soy is just soy water. But as you crave milk, you lie to yourself and call it "soy milk".

  8. At 12 months, my daughter switched from soy formula to silk brand soy milk (owned by a dairy company) and is amazingly healthy and energetic. My family has a history of obesity, overweight, diabetes, and high blood pressure largely due to dietary choices. My children are not going down that path (at least until they're 18 and I kick them out of the house and they can make their own life choices). Also she lost her bottle at 12 months and doesn't use a pacifier. But I digress.

  9. I’ve really tried to consume soy milk over the years, tried consuming small amounts to get accustomed to soy. I just can’t drink it, it makes me sick, way worse than cow’s milk.

  10. There is no such thing as "soy milk". There is no such thing as "non-dairy milk". The garbage you're drinking is plant toxins with seed oils and sugar. It's outrageous how these greedy capitalist are allowed to get away with calling their garbage "milk".

  11. It's sad that here in the eastern US, Soy milk is disappearing. Where there may be 1 or 2 options for soy milk, there will be about 20 or 30 for Almond/Oat.

  12. Over the years I've tried them all…, Most recently flax milk. But, with one pkg left in storage, I basically have dropped it all. Mostly garbage, not needed with hot, whole grain cereals made with water…and dry cereals are good with a bit of water and fruit or a dollop of applesauce or as crumbled toppings on fruit or in salads!

  13. I buy soy and cow milk: soy milk for drinking and cereal, cows milk for cooking and baking
There's no substitute for cows milk when baking.

  14. Soymilk is the OG and the best. I hate that it's getting harder to find. Oat milk and almond milk barely have any nutritional value.

  15. Try rolled oats, microwaved with water, add a diced up Fuji apple, banana, cinnamon, and ground flax seed, and you'll wonder why you even bothered with milk in the first place.

  16. Sadly, a huge part of the population is convinced that soy milk causes men to be feminized. It is widely believed that soy milk increases estrogen in men, causing lower testosterone, and lower sperm counts, and even gynecomastia (man boobs).

  17. Greetings to all.
Iam a 60 year male from London who stopped drinking milk many, many moons ago, and started drinking (Oatly Milk) instead.
But my question is, what about they affect (Soya Milk) has on (Male Testosterone), now Oats when eaten can increase (Male Testosterone) according to (Google Search), so oat milk should do the same right🤔
And what about (Coconut Milk), and is coconut milk better than all they alternatives out there.
    Peace ✌🏿

  18. I buy Good Karma.l, its flaxmilk with pea protein. If not that then I drink walnut milk, which has no protein, but is still very rich in Omega-3's. As milk is not actually necessary in a persons diet – I've taken advantage of this to add omega 3s via a milk form!

  19. A study in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that men who consumed 120 mg of soy a day had a decrease in testosterone.

  20. Milk is for babies…. soybeans are the most genetically modified bean there is on the planet and has glyphosate the weed killer Round up in it which causes cancer !
Raw organic cow or goat's milk is best.

  21. I sprung for a ninja creami. And discovered that instead of soy milk, I can make delicious ice cream recipes with whole cooked soybeans and water substituted for the plant milk. Rich and delicious!

  22. LOL, I keep drinking my grassfed raw milk and cream at 72. I lived once at 65 yr old on 100% raw milk for 4 months, no other food, no problem, normal blood pressure, no congestion.

  23. This is the thing I hate: that the majority of people around the world are lactose intolerant, and yet we’re treated like if we’re deficient in some way when we’re the rule, not the exception. I saw a video from ZOE which actually had Dr Will B (the gut doctor) talking about dairy for gut health and how you can improve your tolerance to dairy which was surprising as I thought he was a plant based doctor. Anyway, the promotion of dairy for one’s health definitely screams racial bias to me. Either way, I’m now happily plant-based and love my organic unsweetened soy milk 😋

  24. I cannot tolerate soy milk for some reason, but can eat natto every day. Very frustrating since I love the taste of soy milk.

  25. Edensoy Unsweetened has 12 grams of protein and is unfortified. Just soybeans and water! As an over 50 person, I use it every day as just one way to up my protein.

  26. Excellent content as always but I'd like to mention style. Dr Greger's articulate, witty, and genial delivery makes learning a pleasure!

  27. Why are we still talking about protein?
Yes, soy milk has lower protein than cow milk. Know what other kind of milk has MUCH lower protein than cow milk?
    HUMAN MILK
We don't need nearly as much protein as we keep being told we do.

  28. Now if we could get doctors and hospitals in Canada to follow the Canadian food guide that would be a great accomplishment.

  29. I realised a long time ago that I’m not a baby cow and that I’m actually a human being. Once you understand that it’s pretty easy to never touch diary ever again.

  30. Better off cutting out cereal with any type of milk. I use soy to replace cow's milk, but fermented dairy has positive health effects particularly homemade kefir. For example, regarding bone mineral density (BMD) , "In this pilot study, we concluded that kefir-fermented milk therapy was associated with short-term changes in turnover and greater 6-month increases in hip BMD among osteoporotic patients." And this wasn't a BS population study but a double-blind randomized control trial and was used as a therapy for osteoporosis patients and tested with sophisticated dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA)

  31. Soy milk is the only plant-based milk that I could find that doesn't have way too much sugar and or salt. Even most soy milks have a lot of added sugar and salt. But if you look hard enough, you can find soy milk with no added sugar and 85 mg of salt per serving.

  32. I find it increasingly hard to get just soy milk with not fortification. I take vitamin D and B12 supplements and don‘t need any extra. Because of videos such as this I don‘t want added calcium. I really don‘t understand the European craze for oat milk as most of it has oil added and is made sweet by amylase enzymes added.

  33. No one who has adopted this whole foods dietary regimen need strain soy. Just shake rather than strain and you get the entirety of the soy fibre. 1 C soaked beans + 1/4t baking soda {makes 1.5 L} to aid in eliminating the oligosaccharride, overnight, strain water and save for houseplants. Steam for 11 min. in Instant Pot; strain and save houseplant water {they thrive on it!} blend @ high speed with extracts {almond and vanilla} and honey if you wish. Same thing, although a little more elaborate for making soy yoghurt. I've been doing this for 12 years now, ever since the good Dr.G saved my wretched soul from prostate cancer in 2011. hahaha

btw, I live in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia. There's unfortunately, only a wee group of us alt plant-based community here. Traditions die hard, as it will, since our species is "sleep-walking towards extinction", the best 4 words ole Deepak ever uttered, despite his over 80 books. hahaha

  34. Stopped drinking milk around 20 years ago and now only use organic soy milk in my daily, high calcium, chia seed pudding with almond powder (flour) and other goodies. I like it so much, I have to remind myself to slow down so I can fully chew and digest all of those creamy chia seeds.

  35. I prefer shelf stable Westbrae Natural Soy Milk. It only contains soybeans and water. None of that other added junk. I was amazed that the shelf stable plant milks have fewer added crap to them.

  36. I’m a big soymilk fan. I’ve learned not all soy milk is created equally. I believe Edensoy Unsweetened Organic to have the highest protein level and the best taste. All this without anything added: just organic soybeans and water. It’s a very rich soymilk and is an excellent base to all sorts of sauces.

  37. YES go Canada! We can only hope we have some brain cells turning on around here as well. US subsidies are paying for cow's milk and it is forced on kids in school even if it makes them sick

  38. The only bad side about soy is that it is pricier than cow's milk. But as someone said, pay the farmers now or pay the doctor later.

  39. So does that mean everything about soy was from tampered studies? I avoided soy milk and soy products after I found out it can influence hormones. Is this not true? I'd like to try soy milk/yogurt but I'm concerned about that if anyone can answer.

I commenti sono chiusi.
