DESCRIPTION: If the fecal fat losses associated with undigested pieces of nuts (due to inadequate chewing) and the tedium of shelling them in the first place helps account for why nuts don’t tend to lead to weight gain, then studies on nut butters would presumably turn out differently. This is the third of a seven-video series on the fascinating phenomenon of the mystery of the missing calories—why don’t nuts make us fat? I reviewed the balance of evidence in Nuts and Obesity: The Weight of Evidence (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/nuts-and-obesity-the-weight-of-evidence/) and introduced two theories in yesterday’s video-of-the-day (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/solving-the-mystery-of-the-missing-calories/). Tomorrow we’ll hit the Dietary Compensation Theory (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/testing-the-dietary-compensation-theory/) and then the Fat Burning Theory (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/testing-the-fat-burning-theory/)–even if peanut butter doesn’t result in the expected weight gain, is Peanut Butter Good for You? (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/is-peanut-butter-good-for-you/).<br />

  1. I can't help but think that this series could have been told in one video, but the cliffhangers are pretty good lol

  2. One problem I can see here is the composition of the peanut butter. Read the label and discover many, if not most, peanut butters remove peanut oil and replace it with partially hydrogenated oil or palm oil. Also, many of us don't chew our foods completely so …. out it comes later on.

  3. The easiest way to gain weight is nut-butter, I have tested it 🙁 …. it is hard to eat nut butter just in moderation as it was done in this examination
