The Best Diet for COVID and Long-COVID

Healthy plant-based diets appear to help reduce the risk of severe COVID-19 and getting infected in the first place, even independent of comorbidities. What evidence exists for nutritional approaches to dealing with long-COVID?

Soon after COVID-19 emerged as a global public health threat, we paused our planned videos here at NutritionFacts.org so I could produce a series of videos (https://nutritionfacts.org/covid-19/) on COVID-19 and write the book How to Survive a Pandemic (https://nutritionfacts.org/book/how-to-survive-a-pandemic/). These resources concentrated on how pandemics arise and how we can mitigate future risk. As such, they remain as relevant as ever, but now that we have several years of data on COVID-19, I can finally answer the question: What’s the role of nutrition in both preventing and beating COVID-19?<br />

50 Risposte a “The Best Diet for COVID and Long-COVID”

  1. I caught Covid right as we learning it existed in America. I had moderate symptoms. I also have multiple sclerosis. I wasn’t fully whole foods yet, but I was vegan and at least 90% whole foods. Six weeks of a bad cold and I was fine. The other person I knew who became sick at the same time, ate a SAD… they died on week 11. I’ve ALWAYS attributed my resilience to my diet and cannabis. It’s also how I’m controlling MS. 🌱💪🏼💚

  2. I was a vegetarian for over 5 year eating mainly organic vegetables, making green juices and phytoplankton drinks. Never felt worse. Recently the last three years I’ve done a total carnivore diet consisting of eggs, red meat, beef liver and have never felt better. I’m way healthier and have blood work done a few times a year not lacking and vitamins or minerals. Oh by the way I haven’t had a sniffle or cold of any kind for the past three years.

  3. I notice the chart of anti-inflammatory effect score says that alcohol is anti-inflammatory? Whilst carbs and energy are inflammatory. I am so confused.

  4. Cool, thanks for the info doc! I appear to have a mid ear infection after what was likely also a minor Covid infection, though compared to how it started it's a virtually negligible now

  5. I was diagnosed with Long Covid and have microclots in my blood. I've been taking Natto(fermented soy beans) because the Nattokinase can break down the microclots. This plant based food has helped significantly.

  6. I had covid at the same time we were learning it was covid . I stayed in bed almost a month . I had to manage covid and also the passing of my dear friend cat . I though I was letting myself die as well . now three years later I still didn't recover my mental state .my smell and taste .I only smell bad smell and have horrible smoke smell around me .as if someone is blowing cigar on my face ..
is it going to be permanent ? that's not a good life .

  7. My wife got rid of her Covid in 2 days by fasting. I never caught Covid because I’m Carnivore. 4 antibodies tests in 4 years – all negative. Slept right next to my wife. Did not isolate.

  8. FFS! One massive crowbar must've been used on this one! Lol. Any study on lOnG cOViD that doesn't take into account vitamin D, vtamin B and cortisol levels in the blood is, frankly, absolute quackery.

  9. I went vegan after getting very sick after 2 back to back COVID infections. Yep, it was long COVID. I was desperate, but if i survive this then I'm going to stay vegan because the food is so good.

  10. Your advice has been a wealth of information for my GI health and you know what? Every morning when I confidently stand up on the sink in front of the mirror and look between my legs into my colon, I'm feeling better and better! Thank you Dr. Michael Greger! ♥️♥️♥️

  11. Indeed, WFPB is ideal for Covid/long Covid. Unfortunately, a lot of the "Long Covid" symptoms/adverse effects can also be attributed and exacerbated by taking the jab and subsequent boosters. Dr. Peter McCullough talks about this, I recommend subbing to his substack. In any case, jabbed or not- everyone should keep with WFPB, plus Nattokinase, Bromelain, Curcumin, etc., if you want to get his supplement for extra help, you can too! I had covid (unjabbed), and I got better within a few days thanks to WFPB, supplements, exercise, rest, etc.

  12. Gunshot wound: eat green leafy vegetables, whole grains, legumes and whole fruit (preferably berries) … you'll be fine.

  13. This just confirms what I already know from experience. I reversed Diabetes only weeks after starting a plant-based diet 10 years ago. No vaccines for me at all. Everyone vaccinated and on a SAD diet around me got Covid, but I did not. My vegan friends did not get Covid, either. Thanks for putting this information out there.

  14. Yes this sounds as a solution to both heal humans and the Earth – WFPB fiber Rich legumes, whole grains, nuts, seeds, Green leaves, cruciferous vegetables, curcumin, organic unsweetened soyamilk, 🎶🍀🎵💚🧡💜🎶🐸

  15. My favorite foods put to the test, and I see why health improvement is healthy. Ethiopian, Indian and Thai food is just to name a few.
We eat rice dishes every day.

  16. In the shops there are instant oats and fine oats are fine oats whole grain and does it matter what type of oats i eat? Ps can i make all oats in the microwave?❤❤❤❤❤

  17. 4 vegans in our family. Worked in-person during the pandemic. I had only a runny nose with Covid. 1 son had mild symptoms. Husband never caught it. Our other son who eats meat felt awful with it.

  18. I have two questions about this, and I am asking sincerely, not trolling in any way. I'm just trying to figure it out because I'm 66 years old and very worried about all of this. First – If saturated fat is inflammatory, then why do keto and carnivore diets (which are high in saturated fats) reduce inflammation so quickly? Most people report relief from joint pain in a matter of days, before any appreciable amount of weight is lost. And second, why is butter not recommended if butyrate is beneficial? Butter is the best source of butyrate.
