  1. Very interesting. For the past few years I kept hearing how fermented soy foods were so beneficial while unfermented ones were downright unhealthy. This makes me feel better about by my soy milk consumption :).

  2. Dr.Greger is the best. Evidence based advice. Facts and humor. The right balance of skepticism and scientific maturity and rational advice.

  3. Do your own research and consider WHY those websites are anti-soy. Meat and dairy industries know that soy is a complete protein that's actually health-promoting instead of disease-promoting like overconsumption of animal products.

    For the people who still believe that soy contains estrogen, FFS go do your own damn research. Soy DOESN'T contain estrogen because it's a damn plant, only animal products contain estrogen and other hormones. Isoflavones/ phytoestrogen in soy act as estrogen receptor antagonists mainly. In other words, this makes soy anti estrogenic, and it's why early consumption since childhood in many east Asian cultures like Japan, confers protection against reproductive cancers in women.

    In Japan it's only recently that women's reproductive cancer rates are going up, due to concurrent, increased intake of dairy and meat. In the last 15 or so years I'd noticed that every time I go back, people seem to be eating more dairy and beef, just my observation.

    Soy has been consumed in Asian cultures for thousands of years, confirming its safety (thus epidemiological evidence) and benefits. My relatives in Japan, the older and long-living ones especially, all eat soy in the form of tofu, soy milk, natto, miso, yuba skin, and okara, at least twice a day in their diet.

  4. How do you know for sure that the dramatic rise of prostate cancer deaths in South Korea over the past several decades is solely attributable to increased meat consumption? South Koreans have been omnivores for more than history can remember. Their traditional foods have included beef, pork, poultry as well as a variety of seafood, even before the "western" diet was fully introduced.

    If a diet change is the culprit for such a dramatic increase of prostate cancer deaths in South Korea, I'd say the diet change is about consuming more calories than necessary, rather than incorporating more animal products.

Hi, have you ever thought of venturing into different proven natural remedies for skin issues that are not only food related but also benefit from certain natural "products"such as tea tree or any other natural ingredients that have been proven to help with skin issues. Just a thought. Videos could be on subject like: acne causes and treatments, eczema, scalp dryness, oiliness, , scalp care, natural sun protectants etc etc etc

  6. I've heard on MANY occasions that soy/soy products can cause you to grow boobs and either boost estrogen in men/boys or mimic estrogen hormones in men/boys. Just the thought makes me avoid soy/soy products altogether.

  7. The Japanese translation is not correct! According to my Japanese mother who prefers the Japanese subtitles, says that it is talking about taxing on cigarettes and not mentioning anything regarding this video!

  8. I think considering the evidence of more harm than good of unfermented soy, it's best to consume fermented only and rely on other foods for protection against prostate cancer.

  9. It is fucking impossible to trust anyone at the moment. Some show scientific relevances on health benefits of soy, others on dairy, meat, etc… while others the opposite!

  13. Correlational studies have limitations. There does seem to be a higher diagnosis of cancer in developed countries but there may not be higher actual incidence. Data on cancer incidence, type and diagnosis is a lot better in first world countries and autopsies tend to be done where cause of death uncertain. That in part accounts for higher incidence of reported cancer in first world countries. Establishing causation and making people aware of how their life choices impact (obesity, bad diet, nitrates, smoking, pesticides and preservatives etc) is the challenge. Its a pretty good indicator that your body simply feels and functions better eating good food and the opposite must lead to all sorts of problems.

  14. So I digged a bit more into the two reports saying fermented soy food protective/harmful:
    Protective: Japanese natto (fermented from Bacillus subtilis var. natto).
    Harmful: Chinese tofu cheese (fermented from aerial bacteria and fungal spores, very salty) and Chinese stinky tofu (no fixed formula for starter bacteria, very salty too).
