ApoE—The Single Most Important Gene for Longevity

APOE is the primary cholesterol carrier in the brain and plays a major role in packaging and transporting LDL cholesterol throughout the body.

Is Longevity Genetic? (https://nutritionfacts.org/video/is-longevity-genetic/) was the previous video.

My new book, How Not to Age (https://nutritionfacts.org/book/how-not-to-age/), is all about aging and longevity, and you can get your copy now at your local public library or wherever books are sold. 40 Risposte a “ApoE—The Single Most Important Gene for Longevity”

  1. Do you STILL support people getting the C vaccine? You still won’t disclose that you got it although before it was released you said you would. I’ve been waiting. As I always believed, you told others to get it, but I don’t believe you did.

  2. I wouldn’t worry about what he has done or not done. Millions of people have gotten that vaccine and the boosters. No problem. Getting the virus is guaranteed to do bad things to you. So do a risk-benefit analysis. I know lots of people, young people, with long C and that is truly a devastating condition. I don’t know anyone who’s had a problem with the vaccine. Of course, that’s all anecdotal, but…

  3. Another gene that may influence longevity: Many years ago I was diagnosed with Gilbert's "disease." But as it turns out, not only is it not considered to be a disease, but it increases a blood antioxidant, quite possibly extending life.

  4. Greger is wrong about cholesterol. Nigerians are voracious meat eaters. Meat and cholesterol do not cause heart disease or Alzheimers. This has been disproven decades ago.

  5. Considering that good diet also runs in families, eg Okinawans presumably have some similar genes, I'd be interested to know how they teased out the purely genetic effects

  6. Does Dr. Peter Attiah know this?He did a video sharing that he has the Apo-E4 gene and still seems to be pro consumption of animal products?

  7. Hmmm… One might think that Nigerians with a life expectancy of only 60 years don’t get old enough to even develop Alzheimer’s disease.
Is that the real reason? And as they are still a very poor country their diet isn’t also a healthy one, since it consists of mainly white rice, chicken, potatoes.
Also dementia cases in Nigeria have probably increased over 600% since 1995 for those living beyond their 60’s.

  8. Shockingly, my 93 yr old father has had a TERRIBLE diet his whole life. Heavy in meat & dairy, junk foods like chips & candy, and he’s still truckin’ along. It’s truly amazing.
