  1. Very interesting and informative, thank you. However in a book by Dr. David Perlmutter, the words Brain or Power Brain were in the title, coconut oil was said to increase production of BDNF. Could this be looked into? I've seen NutritionFacts.org videos on coconut oil, pointing out that while it does have lauric acid it does have large amounts of other saturated fats too.

  2. When we say "20% increase in size" of the hippocampus, what is that exactly? Neurogenesis and increased blood flow.

Why is it growing? Is it just mostly volume size (more blood flow?) or more mass size (neurogenesis?) ?

  3. As a person battling chronic depression grieving his mother's death, 2 years back, my diet and fasting, a lot of positive thinking and meditation has shown such a massive change in how I'm thinking since the past 5 days, that I feel like I am a reformed man.

  4. I have only just heard of BDNF and it was from the Stephen King book the Institute. Higher levels of BDNF (measured in babies at birth) signified telepathy and telekinesis powers. At the end of the book it read that a piece of candy would help his state of mind, guess again Stephen, perhaps he could update his story? :))

  5. A teaspoon of turmeric a day to boost BDNF levels 50%? Too bad you have been recommending for years to limit turmeric to 1/4 teaspoon a day for safety. Whoops!

  6. For brain health, excercise, fasting and lots of fats (yes! including saturated fats) are super important. Vegan docs need to lose that fatphobia and start to focus on the importance of fats. Im not talking about animal protein but fat only.
PS: Im plant based and read the BDNF study

  7. Very practical and informative. Thank you for this video, it came out just in time for me! Exercise and fasting is two main keys to help reduce depression by 60-70%! Keep up the amazing work you are doing, this is soooo much appreciated.

  8. I have genetic depression, and many reasons to be depressed. I exercise and eat these foods…..still depressed. You can't cure shit-netics.

  9. Indeed, eating whole food plant based made me feel better. This is a great motivation to get rid of some vegan junk food that has crept into my diet.

  10. if high fat diet decrease bdnf level why does bdnf increase in people on keto diet?… so i think it is not high fat diet but unhealthy trans fats in processed foods combined with high carbs is the problem

  11. It's a concern that all your links in your video notes are for your own videos. Why not point to PubMed studies or whatever research sources you have found?

  12. Hope it was as simple as increasing BDNF through diet for depression. In depressed people neurochemistry is messed up by default and aggravated by bad life incidents more than normal people. It's got much to do with brain structure than just diet. A depressed person can't even have a good sleep cycle and feels fatigued for no good reason. People who have maintained excellent fitness have committed suicide because of depression.

  13. Can we get BDNF injections or BDNF-containing supplements? If not, why not?? I already exercise daily and eat healthily but my anxiety and depression are still present daily, severe, and distressing.

  14. Any thoughts on consumption of BDNF-boosting foods such as Lion's Mane? I believe this mushroom in particular has the ability to rapidly boost BDNF levels and I'd like to hear the doctor speak on this if his team and him have uncovered supporting (or negating) evidence of my contention. 🙂
