The Effects of Radiation Leaking from Microwave Ovens ( http://nutritionfacts.org/video/The-Effects-of -Perdite-di-radiazioni-da-forni-a-microonde).<br/>

  1. Dr Greger can you please do a video on Organic labeling? Obviously there's the good things about organic, but in particular the fact that USDA Organic is a guarantee of an agricultural process but not a guarantee of outcome or perhaps even purity. Does "Organic" protect us, for examples, from heavy metal toxicity or radioactivity?

  2. I'm hoping this will be a series and questions like what man made substances are and are not microwave safe, e.g., plastic, what does microwaving do to food nutrition, etc.

  3. *woooosh" – sarcasm is wasted on woo-natics. Microwaving has been proven to be an excellent way to preserve nutrients in food.

  4. PUT IT TO THE TEST !!!  Do this test yourself.  Use six microwave safe containers preferably glass containers. Pour Tap Water into a microwave safe container and mark it Not Boiled Tap Water.Boil Tap Water on the Stove for 5 minutes (5 minutes of boiling not total time) and pour into the microwave safe container and let cool to room temperature.  Mark this container Stove Boiled Tap Water.Boil Tap Water in the Microwave for 5 minutes (5 minutes of boiling not total time) and pour into the microwave safe container and let cool to room temperature.  Mark this container Microwave Boiled Tap Water.Pour Rain Water into a microwave safe container and Mark it Not Boiled Rain Water.Boil Rain Water on the Stove for 5 minutes (5 minutes of boiling not total time) and pour into the microwave safe container and let cool to room temperature.  Mark this container Stove Boiled Rain Water.Boil Rain Water in the Microwave for 5 minutes (5 minutes of boiling not total time) and pour into the microwave safe container and let cool to room temperature.  Mark this container Microwave Boiled Rain Water.Place all containers in a room with no sunlight, drafts, cats, dogs or people who could affect the test.   Wait 24 hours to ensure all water is at room temperature.  Then place a mint plant cutting in each of the six containers.   Use a simple over head light to give the plants some light.  Wait 4 to 6 weeks or longer.  Make observations and trust your own eyes.  Then you decide if a microwave kills life or not.  I am only the messenger!  Do the test!

  5. I think of all the prop 65 warnings CA makes people post on items yet no warning for eggs on microwaves.  That's leftard CA for you.  Thanks to God I never tried that at home even when I ate those nasty things called eggs.  Now, I'm curious, do microwaves reduce the nutrients in foods as claimed by Dr. Group from Global Healing Centre in Houston, TX?  I use them only for heating water for tea, and that's it.  Everything else is cooked or heated the old fashioned way.

  6. There is no danger of microwave radiation unless you have a body part in the radiation field while it is running, and even then, the danger is simply that you will cook that body part. Microwave radiation does not have a residual effect. What happens in a microwave is that the field switches direction many times a second which causes polar molecules (polar molecules are like magnets that have one end that is negative and another end that is positive) to vibrate and rub against each other. This molecular friction is what causes the heat. Molecules that are non-polar, such as in glass, ceramics, many plastics, etc. are not affected by the rapid switching of the microwave field, and therefore, they do not vibrate and heat up.

Some people have this vague notion that somehow microwave radiation might make the food radioactive or that it might create free radicals by changing the food's chemistry….not true…there is no residual radioactivity at all, and microwaves are do far less to change food chemistry or create free radicals than fire or traditional cooking methods (which is what happens when we brown, char, or caramelize food).

Concerns of harm might have some merit with other types of radiation, such as with gamma rays used to sterilize food in pouches. This type of radiation is very different…it bombards the pre-packaged food with atomic particles to kill all living organisms inside (e.g., bacteria, mold, etc.), but, it can also alter the food's chemistry and create free radicals. I don't know that it is a serious concern, but it does exist in this case.

  7. My cousin (phD in Science and Physics) says you never see a physicist owning or using a microeave and for a good reason. I guess you Americans are more familiar with its use though… I dont own a microwave and never really miss it

  8. I'm bothered that Dr. Greger, given the name of his site being Nutrition Facts, never once mentioned the nutritional content of microwaved food.

It isn't that microwaves are bad (who knows,) the point seems to be that whatever nutrition that was LOST IN COOKING, is FURTHER LOST in microwaves.

Basically microwaved food is dead and nutritionless from my understanding. It is unnatural.

  9. please i need to ask about any diet to help with healing fibroadenomas…i started to be vegan after reading a lot about how to heal fibroadenomas naturally so please if u can help me with some links from Dr.greger …thank you

  10. I would be more interested to hear if microwaving has any outcomes on nutrients and overall food quality. Can microwaves turn vitamins inactive form etc.

  11. Thank you Dr. Greger, life style information is good too. This is a safety issue we can pass on to others. Not every video will be relevant to every one. I have grandkids who just might try this so I plan on passing this info on to my family. Dr. Greger will continue disseminating pertinent nutritional facts for us as well.

  12. What do you say about th effect of mirowaved water on plants experiment done by a young lady and countless others posted on YouTube. Are there any studies of the denaturing factor versus conventional stove top and oven-baked cooking on our Foods?

  13. I actually thought this was going to be about how heating things up in the microwave effect our food. Is it making our food more dangerous, or its just fine…?

  14. There is a power level feature on every microwave, drop it down to 30-40% and increance by about 3 time the cooking time. This will allow even heat distribution into food. Remember, a microwave shouldn't be used to save much time but to save energy as almost 100% of the waves energy are directly transmitted to water molecules compared to regular oven or or cooking surface where a lot of energy is lost into air.

  15. What about the effects of the microwave radiation? Nice to be warned about the heat issue but more importantly many are concerned about the microwaves themselves

  16. Anyone who is upset by this video have totally misunderstood the intent (which is no surprise). Have fun self-trolling yourself because you have convinced yourself that microwaves are dangerous. Greger is seriously the best lol

  17. Eggs are not vegan food doc. Chick's are being ground alive for each egg we don't actually need and better off without it.
What about unsealed microwave radiation, thought you're going to touch that as well?

  18. I was concerned that it was a fear mongering video in which the evil radiations turned the food into mutant food that caused cancer. Im happy it wasnt and in fact it was extremely relevant, thank you.

  19. I occasionally hear someone claim that irradiating your food with a microwave somehow makes it unhealthy, is there any veracity to this claim?

  20. Not what I was expecting!! How do microwaves affect the water molecules in the food? What effect does microwaved vegan food have on our health? There's a myth that not so good. Come on dr., exploding eggs??!

  21. So, is cooking food in a microwave safe, or not? I didn't find the video helpful at all and he hasn't made any other videos regarding this topic.

  22. If you scramble the Eggs, before cooking in the microwave, you get very fluffy eggs due to the steam inside the eggs.

  23. Dr. Greger any chance you can do a video on Igg Food sensitivity testing? Should people be doing these? Which test's are legit? Which one's are best to do? There's also an Alcat test by Wellio.co?

  24. what about nutrients? isn't heating in the microwave likely the most nutrient killing method of heating foods in comparison to other methods at similar temperatures?

  25. Microwaving vegetables is apparently a healthy way of cooking them. As long as one leaves the food for 2 mins, microwaves are fine

  26. I was expecting other type of information like is the microwave safe in terms of radiation and does it deplete vitamins in food was disappointed with this one video

  27. After months of daily heating broccoli in the microwave, my abdomen hurt with a heated feeling like the lining of my intestines are inflamed, then I changed to steaming it on the stove and the pain gradually disappeared.

  28. The wave lenghts of microwaves is way too big to have any effects on an molecular scale. You can put fruit flies into a micro wave for an hour and they won't get damaged because they are too small to be affected by the waves.
It has to do with things needing a certain size to be effected by the induced voltage.

  29. Microwaves are not good emit it a lot of waves and radiating the DNA in the food .If you feed a plant water that has been microwaved it will die within a week

  30. we aren't interested in Safe Use, we are more concerned about the radiation. You provide so much nutritional information, however, your promotion of using a microwave is disappointing.

  31. Medical literature like many so called doctors are total bull shit. Research suggests that electromagnetic radiation has a carcinogenic effect and is mutagenic, in that it changes the DNA structure of humans. In theory, radiation is emitted only on the inside of the device. In practice, however, oven doors often leak and therefore people operating the device are at a higher risk of exposure. Deleting your channel now!

  32. Luv you brother, but was expecting more! I wanna know about microwave dangers themselves. Not what they do to exploding eggs! Please!! Are microwave ovens a SAFE alternative to warming our food or not?

  33. I believe the reason you were asked, so many times, if microwaving food is dangerous to the human body, has to do with an old-time popular concern that the radiation changes the DNA of the food and taking the 'life-force' out of the food. This comes from an old study where they watered a plant with normal water, and a 2nd with microwaved (cooled) water, ending with the plant that got the microwaved water dying while the other grew just fine. That study is very well known, among the older hippie groups :). So, nothing to do with obvious things like hot donuts or eggs, thank you….

  34. Not what I expected from this video. I don't own a microwave and never will. The more pertinent question is, if food prepared in a microwave oven is good for your health?

  35. Microwaving Scrambled Eggs make a very fluffy egg omelet, better than a frypan!! It is microwaving an egg trying to make hard-boiled eggs that cause explosive problems.

  36. They do leak radiate from the door so stay well back when you use one about 2 feet is good and make sure the seal around the door is clean. I used to repair them so I know.

  37. The egg thing happened to me. It's a terrible experience. I thought my face was blown off because both my eyes and nostrils were sealed shut with the rubberiness of the eggs. My left eye's cornea was damaged, but the cornea can grow back. After emerg took it all out, I had to keep my eyes closed for a week, though. The egg was all over the roof of the kitchen. Don't microwave eggs, especially in the shell.

  38. Microwaves are all I use to cook with. It has to be better than cooking on a stove and using oil. A whole food plant based diet doesn't require cooking. I use mine for oatmeal and that is about it.
