DHEA: What Is It and What Are Its Benefits?

DHEA levels naturally decline with age. Does replenishing youthful levels have restorative effects? Should we take DHEA supplements?

What about injections of human growth hormone for anti-aging benefits? See my last video The Side Effects of Human Growth Hormone as an Anti-Aging Therapy (https://nutritionfacts.org/video/the-side-effects-of-human-growth-hormone-as-an-anti-aging-therapy/) for more on that.

22 Risposte a “DHEA: What Is It and What Are Its Benefits?”

  1. I have eaten a mostly WFPB diet since 2017, and am currently 56. I had babies at 33 and 35, and hit menopause at 52. I have never supplemented with DHEA, but my levels have constantly been on the high side of normal for the five years I have been testing. I find that interesting. I'm not hairy, acne-prone, or with PCOS. I do think it may be part of what gives me a more youthful look. Who knows.

  2. I've been suspicious of the TRIIM trials that are supposed to restore thymus function and and reverse aging to some extent. I get the gut feeling that it's just a marketing ploy to make the doctors some easy money. Caveat emptor. The two main pillars of the treatment are GH and DHEA. But they just got knocked out in the last couple of videos you did, confirming my suspicions. So, what else is good for getting a youthful thymus?

  3. Sweet! I have been wondering for about 6 years if I should be taking this. Back in 2017 My doctor accidentally checked my DHEA instead of DHA when I asked. And my DHEA was very low. But I had/have none of those symptoms. I am a little depressed about where I live because I hate it here. But that's not the fault of DHEA but maybe that's what brought it down. I definitely don't have any problems with focus and sexual drive, I can definitely make some babies at 50 ;). And I just checked my bone density the other day and it's excellent going on 13 years vegan now. And I definitely don't need to lose any weight because I'm perfect in that department. So I guess I'm good 🙂 I feel good ❤

  4. Ridiculous video. DHEA is mostly used by MALES not females. In fact, I have never heard of it being used by females. And it DOES indeed work for men over 40 years old. As you have stated, it is a pro-hormone so it gets converted in a male body to testosterone. I do not know whether it works for men over 80 which is the only male age group you have cherry-picked to mentioned. As usual, everything you cover is geared towards your mission of promoting the vegetarian, vegan life style. This is disingenuous at best and at worst dangerous to those who trust you. Shameful.

  5. Dear Doctor, love you. Now, when my board certified endocrinologist recommended 30mg a day. Why? I didn't know. Later it seemed that yes, he had a rationale. It is meant to fight cortisol and therefore he recommended taking it in the morning early. A year of two later he asked me to stop taking it or at least cut the dose. That was because he said that the excess was (possibly?) turning into estrogen (His best guess??) Maybe he wanted me to stop taking it because I was buying from Vitacost and not the way more expensive product he was selling in his office. I am 75 years old and the issue of counteracting cortisol is important to me for the sake of my getting enough sleep in the mornings.

  6. My thoughts are that the reason why DHEA isnt effective in menopausal women, is bc DHEA is a raw material from which estrogen, progesterone and testosterone are made, BUT the "factory"… the ovaries, is shut down. No factory, no hormones even if there's plenty of raw material.

Sure some if these hormones can be made in the adrenals and peripheral tissues, but those too have been affected by age and only produce a fraction of the amount needed to keep a woman healthy and youthful.

  7. Never cease to be fascinated (and horrified) when data shows that so many supplements do not contain what they claim to contain. …. So what is in there exactly?
Another reason to not overly rely on supplements, but rather use them to "supplement" a nutritious diet 🙂

  8. Огромное спасибо ЛАРИСЕ ГУРЕВИЧ за перевод на русский язык!!
    Премного благодарны!
    Лариса! Будьте здоровы ❤

А доктор Грегор это свет ✨ любим ❤

  9. Dr. Greger, Dr Harris here, been following you for years. I’m WFPB. I been taking DHEA for years algae based. ? Are you still recommending it for brain shrinkage prevention?

I commenti sono chiusi.
