DESCRIPTION: Sellers of coconut oil use a beef industry tactic to downplay the risks associated with the saturated fat in their products. Here are the two saffron videos I referenced: Saffron for the Treatment of Alzheimer’s (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/saffron-for-the-treatment-of-alzheimers/) and Saffron Versus Aricept (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/saffron-versus-aricept/). The spice may also help with PMS (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/saffron-for-the-treatment-of-pms/) and depression (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/saffron-vs-prozac/).<br />
Think my water in Coke joke was too over the top? When a corporate exec was asked on the stand (http://www.mcspotlight.org/case/trial/quotes.html) if Coca Cola was “nutritious” he said that it is “providing water, and I think that is part of a balanced diet.”

More on meat industry hijinks in videos like Meat Mythcrushers (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/meat-mythcrushers/), Cattlemen’s Association Has Beef With Study (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/cattlemens-association-has-beef-with-epic-study/), Unsafe at Any Feed (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/unsafe-at-any-feed/), and my blog post E. coli O145 Ban Opposed by Meat Industry (http://nutritionfacts.org/2012/06/09/e-coli-o145-ban-opposed-by-meat-industry/).

The “compared to butter” bit reminds me of the “compared to pork” nuttiness: Nuts and Bolts of Cholesterol Lowering (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/nuts-and-bolts-of-cholesterol-lowering/).

What was that thing I said about saturated animal fat and endotoxins? See my three part series: The Leaky Gut Theory of Why Animal Products Cause Inflammation (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/the-leaky-gut-theory-of-why-animal-products-cause-inflammation/), The Exogenous Endotoxin Theory (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/the-exogenous-endotoxin-theory/), and Dead Meat Bacteria Endotoxemia (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/dead-meat-bacteria-endotoxemia/).

100 Risposte a “Does Coconut Oil Clog Arteries?”

  1. I love this because he actually shows you the studies and actual scientific research. I dont know anything about science. But know from experience. and coconut oil gives me really bad skin problems.

  2. A simple solution and more beneficial to the body is cut open a coconut, pour the water into a blender, scoop out the flesh inside the coconut and blend and make coconut milk. Drink everyday and watch health transform. We are not designed to consume concentrated oils, there is a reason the food starts of WHOLE.

  3. I'm surprised and disappointed that you, Dr. Greger, use studies that shouldn't be mentioned to prove a point, and in this case, that coconut oil is "detrimental" to our health. While it may be so, we still don't know, the "Effect of the fat composition of a single high-fat meal on inflammatory markers in healthy young women" (2011) study had a sample of 14 women, which you neglected to mention. Come on! One cannot state any conclusion with such a small sample. This study should not have been mentioned. And the same goes for "The Impact of Virgin Coconut Oil and High-Oleic Safflower Oil on Body Composition, Lipids, and Inflammatory Markers in Postmenopausal Women" (2017) study, which only had a sample of 12 women, which again you neglected to mention. I basically don't trust your judgement or videos any longer. These so-called studies are pilot studies at best. Where are the real studies? Medicine (and nutrition) that should be using the most scientifically rigorous measurement, evaluation and methodology tend to use bogus research practices and so-called doctors. This is shameful, disgusting and criminal.

  4. I don’t believe what you are saying. coconut oil is very good for you my cholesterol levels have come down, so I will be continuing taking it

  5. eat foods as they were intended _ stop squeezing out their oils- IE- like coconuts eat coconuts – like olive oil eat olives — etc etc ————————————————

  6. if you eat a tiny bit of eggs olive oil meat omega3 fish meat you will live longer your brain needs cholestrol to be healthy. problem: people eat far to much of these and not enough veggies and fruit. a little bit unhealthy is healthy. if people eat for generations only healthy veganist food and then let their weakened childeren eat a garbage meal at the mc D. then they become sick.

  7. Listen to the real doctors on this subject. They praise it, and have proof of people being healed
of cancer, brain problems and lots more!!! Watch the videos by Mary Newport MD, cured her
husband by finding out what was used in one of the latest drugs for Alzheimer's… She was
shocked to see it was coconut oil….. My husband and I are putting it in our morning coffee.
Use it to cook our eggs, and most all our foods now. We feel great, and think so much better
now…. I have 2 sisters in their early 80's that are also using it, and are doing very well… They
still drive very well, mow grass and still have very good minds… I'll stay with the coconut oil!!!

  8. Coconut oil is used in a lot of cosmetics, and supposed to be good for the skin. Would absorption through the skin be a problem if one's cholesterol is too high?

  9. Back in 2005 (ish), I read Dr. Bruce Fifes' book called "The Coconut Oil Miracle" and have not used any other oil except Coconut oil and Olive oil since then, thinking it was the best. Recently, there have been a number of books by various authors (names escape me at the moment, but you have probably heard about them) claiming fats and oils and Cholesterol are NOT harmful. I am so confused! I have A-FIB along with Congestive Heart Failure and recently had 4 stents placed, so obviously need to get serious about my health. (I actually thought I was!) I will be transitioning over to a Vegan W.O.E this month.  (still using up the BAD stuff, only 3 more eggs to go, and a little butter!) I know, I know…..! A friend loaned me her copy of Dr. Essy's " Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease" so I plan on using a lot of the recipes in there.  But, getting back to my point: Why are there such differing points of view  when it comes to Cholesterol and fats, especially among doctors? (don't they all learn the same thing at med school??)

  10. Omg, I have just spent three weeks watching videos telling me that butter, coconut oil and all full fat things were good for me, and I was about to go on a keto diet, and now this video makes me totally confused and worried.

  11. Love listening to these presentations. But with some don't forget the big pinch of salt. So many clinical studies are so bloody wooden. They do not relate to reality at all. Statistics can easily be made into the mother of all liars.

  12. Coconut oil has tons of health benefits especially for cognitive function. Don't let the 'saturated fat' crap hype scare you. It is the best oil to cook with if you are going to cook with oil (next to avocado oil). Funny how vegans have no problems eating shit loads of margarine and inflammatory oils like canola and grapeseed oil though. I've been eating coconut oil daily for 18 months and my blood work and health are perfectly fine. Do your research, people

  13. Nobody has ever proved that eating suturated fat raises ldl. In fact butter helps lower ldl. Coconut oil does not contain cholesterol. Nobody has ever proved that ldl causes heart problems

IT IS A SCARE TACTIC TO GET PEOPLE TALKING STATIN DRUGS

  14. I have been using coconut oil and palm oil and lard and butter all my life. I am now 72 and very healthy.
Last time i checked my blood pressure 102-60. I don't do any proccessed food or dairy. Except butter
In the US use only organic butter

  15. copied from "Chemical Characteristics the Olive Oil Source" ::: The major fatty acids in olive oil triacylglycerols are:

Oleic Acid (C18:1), a monounsaturated omega-9 fatty acid. It makes up 55 to 83% of olive oil.
Linoleic Acid (C18:2), a polyunsaturated omega-6 fatty acid that makes up about 3.5 to 21% of olive oil.
Palmitic Acid (C16:0), a saturated fatty acid that makes up 7.5 to 20% of olive oil.
Stearic Acid (C18:0), a saturated fatty acid that makes up 0.5 to 5% of olive oil.
Linolenic Acid (C18:3)(specifically alpha-Linolenic Acid), a polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acid that makes up 0 to 1.5% of olive oil.

Triacylglycerols are normally composed of a mixture of three fatty acids. Most prevalent in olive oil is the oleic-oleic-oleic (OOO) triacylglycerol, followed, in order of incidence, by palmitic-oleic-oleic (POO), then oleic-oleic-linoleic (OOL), then palmitic-oleic-linoleic (POL), then stearic-oleic-oleic (SOO), and so on.

Olive oil contains more oleic acid and less linoleic and linolenic acids than other vegetable oils, that is, more monounsaturated than polyunsaturated fatty acids. This renders olive oil more resistant to oxidation because generally, the greater the number of double bonds in the fatty acid, the more unstable and easily broken down by heat, light, and other factors the oil is. It is generally accepted that cooler regions (e.g. Tuscany) will yield oil with higher oleic acid than warmer climates. That is, a cool region olive oil may be more monounsaturated in content than a warm region oil.

  16. A Tbsp or less of unrefined coconut oil in a well balanced plant based diet that includes lots of fruits, veggies, whole grains, and exercise is perfectly fine. Fight me.

  17. No one purely eating coconut oil as a meal for long term especially from those old cultural food behavior. Cholesterol increase when you eat any oil accompany with carb and sugar in large amount on every meal. When you saying coconut oil is bad with such and such scientific finding on certain group of people, is it an isolated test? What is more logical even without the need of scientific support is most people are over eating on GMO food with contaminated with various pesticides and chemical compound. If you want to bash, bash those sneaky fake food first from the plant and food industry, please don’t call yourself a doctor, by just throwing bunch of crap reports.

  18. It stands to reason, (to me), that we need some kind of lubricant? What Say You, anyone, somebody – have there been any scientific studies done on coconut oil?

  19. LDL isn't cholesterol, isn't bad, and is guilty of guilt by association. A hallmark of Alzheimer's progression is the inability of the brain to metabolize glucose. The brain literally starves to death. Coconut oil is alternative fuel for the brain, feeding the brain cells and preventing permanent brain damage. I'm breaking coconut oil out of this dumb jail.

  20. There are many people eating keto diet by using MCT oil. Can MCT oil from coconut oil clog arteries? Thanks for your prompt response.

  21. @Dr.Greger, the Keto diet is popular now. MTC oil is prompted to be a fast absorbing product. I eat a Vegetarian diet, and I just start taking 1tsp MTC oil and 2tsp coconut cream in morning with my coffee. I can cut coconut cream although I love the taste. my concern is if MTC oil will clogging my blood arteries and lead to heart disease?? Please make an video to explain it so that further educate more people . Thanks very much .

  22. eating oil is the same as when you extract fructose from a fruit and only eat the fructose which is very bad too

  23. Air currents move pesticides around the world. Nothing is truly healthy. Our food is corrupt, then you die. Oh well. Try to eat healthy. Try to stick around long enough for your grandkids. What more can you ask.

  24. I stopped using coconut oil a long time ago. In fact, I hardly recommend to use oils because of their chemistry change during high heat.

  25. Saturated fat does not raise LDL Butter and cocinut oil both lower LDL. LDL IS NOT A RISK FACTOR FOR HEART DISEASE. I quit watching because you made to many BULLSHIT STATMENTS.
MOST PEOPLE THAT AVOID ALL SATURATED FAT ARE TAKING BLOOD PRESSURE OR CHOLESTEROL MEDICATION IN THERE 50s. I AM ALMOST 73. NO ISSUES. I HAVE BEEN. EATING SATURATED FATS OF ALL KINDS WITH ALMOST EVERY MEAL ALL MY LIFE.
    REFINED SUGAR ,
REFINED UNSATURATED OILS AND MEAT. AND DAIRY OTHER THAN BUTTER ARE THE CULPRITS. AND ALL REFINED FOOD. .

  26. When I have my double bacon onion cheese burger with fries I guess I’ll have to stop frying the potatoes up in coconut oil. Geez this health stuff is tricky.

  27. I use coconut oil for stir frying. While I don't think it's the superfood that it's hyped up to be, it's better than soybean, corn, safflower, sunflower, canola, and other vegetable seed oils that are high in polyunsaturated fats. Those polyunsaturated fats oxidize all to easily, especially when heated up.

I don't think I'll be buying or ordering deep fried foods again. Most restaurants reuse vegetable oil many times over in their deep fryers. This means that the deep-fried food is loaded with oxidation products, carcinogens, trans fats, and other harmful substances. This multiplies one's risk of not only a heart attack or stroke but also cancer, diabetes, dementia, and Alzheimer's Disease.

  28. nothing wrong with cholesterol. The higher the levels of cholesterol in the blood the lower is the mortality rate from all causes ! what you say !!?? please research there are several types of cholesterol and the good and the bad is oversimplified. Cholerserol is produced by the liver and is an essential nutrient. Its only damaged chlosterol due to toxicity, inflammation poor nutrient intake that is related to health issues. Saturated fats that turn toxic or already toxic due to frying , roasting etc are a problem. But raw cocnut oil improves cardio vascular mortality rates. Check out the philipenes where cardio vascular mortaily in the high coconut oil consumption areas is the lowest.

  29. and one more thing are you denying the fact that coconut oil is anti microbio, it stop plaque in your mouth and artery so it does that how the hell is it poison, yeah its poison to the plaque that you dont want lol

  30. Coconut oil has 120 calories and 13.5 grams of fat per tablespoon . If you need a study or a guy on YouTube to tell you that the stuff is injurious to your health then enjoy being overweight and in poor health

  31. The makers of the drug Oxytocin used the same marketing bullshit as the coconut oil people. Oxytocin was better than straight heroin and less addictive, they said. It was good for you and could be used like Skittles or M&Ms…. Yeah, hundreds of thousands of drug overdoses later and 1 million+ lives ruined…

  32. The beef people lol!!!! Y its mom and pop cattle ranchers that are lying to us, not hyper giant agro cultural super nationals pumping out industrial seed oils…

I commenti sono chiusi.
