  1. Potato is also a good cheap staple food. There are places with longevity where they eat potato as the staple food. Cassava is also a good cheap staple food in many places as long as you also eat vegetables. Cassava originated from Brazil and is still a staple food in Brazil.

  2. Anyone know how I can get questions in for the love q&a? Just submit them when the show is on or try post them to on the Facebook page or what? Anyway, I'd like to ask, you showed once eating some nuts before a meal cut the blood sugar spike for hours, but I've heard that nuts can reduce the absolution of nutrients.. is this true or just an old wife's tale? Thanks!

  3. When you dream so vividly every night where it affects the quality of your sleep, is that more often than not a drug side effect?

  5. Silly question ..maybe…but as a woman going thru perimenoppause:menopause, can I still continue to eat a plant base diet or do I have to cut back .. Especially on the carbs and lentils… I think I know the answer but just want to be sure . Thank you!

  6. Wait. Says "dates are really healthy for you," but is cooly dismissive of white potatoes? I'm not suggesting either is a super food, but surely dates are no better for you than potatoes.

  7. B12 – Methylcobalamin. This is the most active form in the human body. …
Cyanocobalamin. This synthetic version of vitamin B-12 is created in a lab, which makes it the cheapest supplement option.

WHY take the synthetic version? it's garbage from what I've read (and experienced)

  8. I think the reason Dr. Greger keeps getting the white potato question is because the answer he gives might not fully be getting at what people want to know. I think people understand that sweet potatoes are the healthier choice, but they still want to know where the white potato falls more generally on the more healthy/less healthy scale. I'd be interested to know which letter grade he'd give to white potatoes, for example.

  9. any reason why he recommends cyanocobalamin over methyl?
I think its the cheapest source but most supplements here have methycobalamin, but are there differences in absorbability etc?

  10. I used to get chronic canker sores and switching to a non-plastic toothbrush (the brand I use has castor bean based bristles as well) within a couple of weeks I was free of them and it's been 6 months now which for me is nearly a miracle. I am excited to see the honey findings though!

  11. On the subject of high blood pressure not going down on a plant-based diet, I would tell the person to be patient. It took a full year for me to get really good numbers. I started at 145/95 and I'm down to 100/70 now. First 6 to 8 months I still had trouble with my diastolic not going below 80. The only difference now is I exercise vigorously 3x a week, so I think that was the missing piece for me. I eat mostly WFPB, starch-heavy and always vegan. Low to moderate sodium. You can do it too!

  12. Regarding canker sore question, I suffered regularly from those for decades and even had a prescription paste (that worked wonders if applied first day), but after switching to plant-based diet I haven't had a single one. Also a remarkable reduction in plaque between dentist visits. I was amazed by these two changes. Thanks Dr. G for the great service you do.

  13. You are a "walking" human nutritional encyclopedia! If anyone knows the answer, you do! Every time I listen to one of your lectures, I say aloud with you, "so you don't have to"! You're the best!

  14. If we still don't know about almond milk having the same nutrient blocking issues as dairy milk, what do you put on your oatmeal, cereal, etc?

  15. Thanks for the video.  I've been plant-based since Jan 2017 and feel awesome, but still have Blepharitis.  Do you have any advice to eat certain foods.ThanksStealth

  16. for the woman experiencing bloating … I also experienced bloating and gas during my transition to whole plant foods. I toughed it out and after 6 months it went away and never came back (vegan for 3 years now). If it's very bad when eating certain foods like legumes, she could try taking Beano when she eats them. I believe the gas was a part of my gut flora adjusting to the new diet.

  17. Always drink before a meal never drink after (min. 1 hr) as this dilutes the HCl hydrochloric acid in the stomach which prevents other necessary digestive functions from happening easily

  18. Tap water? I heard and read so many nasty things on fluoride, chlorine, lead, mercury contained in tap water. What about Reverse Osmosis and re-add some potassium and magnesium gluconate after?

  19. Dr. Greger, I have been on the whole foods plant based diet for two months yet my blood pressure is still very bad. 180/107. Is this diet good for primary aldosteronism? Please help me!

  20. Do you have any diet recommendations for what seems to be a chronic pancreatitis/ and flareups (aggravated by gastroparesis?) for a 61 y.o. non-smoking, social drinking female?

  21. I don't know where I am supposed to ask a question. But if anyone wants to give input I would appreciate it. I am a teenager and I transition into a plant-based diet about 5 months ago. My period went away and I don't know what I should do. I haven't had my period a few months. Is it possible I might not be getting enough iron? Or not enough calories?

Btw I am definitely not pregnant.

  22. Dr. Greger, I understand that you bring science news and try to be objective about it.
I also understand that you care about animals?
So I was really surprised to hear you say that people should put honey in their green tea? 🙁 🙁
I am sure you're familiar with what happens to bees when their honey is taken away?
Or do you have some different opinion about this?

  23. Cannabis is legal in my state. I hate smoking anything including it. So I learned how to make cannabutter. I make my own using coconut oil with decarbed cannabis. It is wonderful to never smoke but still take my no smoke med!

  24. The best mouth sore folk medicine remedy is: dabbing ALUM powder (the pickling spice) on the sore. It immediately stops the pain and heals up really fast, in what seems like a day. Learned if from my grandma and have always used it.

  25. Do you have any thoughts on Fructose Malabsorption or DFI? I have been following a strict gluten free diet due to Celiac's for 6 years, and a whole foods vegan diet for the last year. I began experiencing symptoms much like the ones I had before giving up gluten, deep acne on my cheeks and jaw, headaches, bloating, vomiting, and changes in bowl movements. My doctors have run many tests, but none were conclusive. I have done some research and some have said there could be a connection with Celiac's Disease and DFI. Please help!

  26. can somebody comment on this? nutritional yeast can not produce b12, it is fortified with it…so it is synthetic b12…so what to do? thx

  27. Had vertical gastric surgery 2 years ago to lose weight — down 70 pounds. But since becoming vegan recently, I have very little room for a normal volume of food. What foods should I concentrate on to get eaten first?

  28. Hi i miss always your live video chat. I hope you do a video on otite vertigo,.. i start to got that 2 years ago, my quality life is not good because of that… i have crisis more often whats the real causes ,.. yes its start with sinus and otite ear and vertigo im vegetarian almost 98 % plant base diet … and take b12 magnesium hibiscus tea all you recommand mostly…

  29. I take adenocobalamin. I used to take methylcobalamin and not noticed any difference in whether I take it or not. I noticed the adeno gives me more focus and mood lift. It is the closest to what the body uses

  30. How do I become a lifestyle medical doctor? I just got my bachelor's degree and I am planning on going to D.O. school. But I don't know how to incorporate nutrition like a vegan dietary nutritionalist?? Your guidance would be appreciated!

  31. Love all the NutritionalFacts.org clips. I listen non stop while cleaning the house or painting etc. So I ususally don't click the like, but love them all. Thank you so much for this information. Following your diet plan I have lost 37 pounds in the last 5 months and am feeling better. And my Dr, has taken me off 2 medicines. And best of all I showed my Dr. how I was improving my diet and show him your book and he ordered a copy for himself.

  32. Did he surprise anyone else by recommending tap water? Honestly a pretty dangerous recommendation from someone I've always trusted. Not all tap water is created equal and that person may not even be living in the US, let alone a good part of the US where the water isn't compromised. Furthermore, tap water is full of fluoride, which is detrimental for the pineal gland of the brain. I'm just really surprised he said that.
