  1. I don't use fluoride so I don't care about that part. I do floss after brushing, then rinse well any remaining particles floating around. No plaque. But that might have to do with my diet.

  2. Many years ago I developed a nasty case of gingivitis. My dentist seemed unable to help much and had never mentioned flossing. I switched dentists who on the first visit recommended flossing. The problem cleared up almost immediately and never returned. I have not had a cavity is over 30 years, so I am a firm believer in flossing regardless of what the studies say…

  3. I love this youtube channel. All other channels are just clickbait and dramatic thumbnails… Dr. G just gives me facts without sugarcoating it, and he does it charmingly.

  4. well I am kind of a freak when it comes to mouth hygiene…..So thats what I do ,…2 times a day I spend 10 minutes on my mouth… First I use my Braun Oral B electric brush, then I use normal floss to floss, then I brush my tongue with a Gusto Tongue scrubber with some peroxide on it and then I use a tongue scraper to get everything off, then Floss with my Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser and then to keep my teeth super white I brush my teeth again with normal soft tooothbrush and the Periactil's Complete Oral Care System that also includes a paste mouthwash….So I think I will be more then fine….lol

  5. Good that I am in the group of dentists who were advising the right sequence to my patients. But it was purely based on anecdotal evidence, common sense, and empiricism. I LOVE when there are dentistry-related videos here… it's so fulfilling.

  6. I floss first, but also rinse after flossing with mouthwash, but don't rinse after brushing, just spit. I read somewhere that rinsing after brushing removes more of the good stuff in the toothpaste….

  7. I always floss first. But it's amazing that when I was very young, about 40 years ago (!) I had an argument with an aquaintence about this. Ha! I was right if you (forgot his name) are listening!
….I also like using those 'Christmas tree' picks, also with flossing and rinsing with hydrogen peroxide, a great antibacterial and whitener.

  8. floss, brush with electric toothbrush and scrape tongue. dont ever use mouthwash. kills good and bad bacteria. brush more than does the job. your mouth gets dirty a half hour after you brush. so don't use mouthwash ever.

  9. Of course you’ll remove more shit if you floss first. Bottom line is ——floss!!!! Disease comes in thru the gums, oral hygiene is probably more critical to your health than most of the Mumbo jumbo eat your veggies shit being spat out on YouTube. 😶

  10. I am a dentist with over a decade of clinical experience. I thought flossing first would be the best method and I have been recommending my patients do this based on common sense with the caveat that there was no strong evidence either way…… UNTIL NOW!!!! And more important than the order in which you do it is that you do brush and floss daily.

  11. I floss after brushing and then I rinse vigorously with a non alcoholic mouthwash. A lifetime of healthy teeth and gums. I don't understand people who don't floss. Why would you want to have rotting food and bacterial plaque trapped between your teeth? No wonder there is a halitosis epidemic.

  12. I floss daily before brushing because I always remove food particles; and, brushing alone does not remove these particles- I know from experience. Whenever I have brushed without flossing, it can still feel plaque along the gum line.

  13. I didn’t think the floss varieties like waxed, shred resistant, etc. were an attempt at superior plaque removal (which is implied at 2:43); I thought those features were just for user experience.

  14. good video, but FYI…fluoride is a poison, just check your toothpaste warning label about how you should get medical help or contact a poison control center right away if swallowed…also…the sun actually does go around the earth…not a ball

  15. Can someone give a short summary? What's wrong with flossing after toothbrushing (read that in the comments)?

  16. I am a dentist and always thought that you floss first so that when you brush, the fluoride can get in and remineralize those surfaces!!! 😊 I think the ADA still says on their website that it doesn't matter, I have to check. The good news, now I can finally tell my patients (with evidence backing me up), that we floss first! Woohoo

  17. I floss anytime I like! Now I purchased a flossing toothbrush, and dry brush to keep my teeth flossed. I can dry brush anytime, Anyplace even while watching YouTube entertainment and education.

  18. what about a quick brush, then floss, and then a full brush. seems like they should have added a third arm to the study – likely the best method!

  19. the best is water-floss first, then brush, then while you still have toothpaste in your mouse use floss to go between the teeth.

  20. Dr. Greger or someone who knows statistics… What do the p=0.001 & p=0.009 signify in terms of actual amount of plaque removed by one method compared to the other? Does it mean flossing first is 9 times better than brushing first?

  21. WE HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING ONLY ABOUT ORAL HEALTH, WE CAN JUST HAVE SOMEONE'S OPINION .. WITH ALL RESPECT. WE REALLY NEED TO HAVE THE SCIENTIFIC FACTS, SO WE CAN SHARE THIS WITH ALL.
IN WHICH SENSE "SLOWS PLAQUE DEVELOPMENT" .. HOW DOES IT AFFECTS THE BIOFILM FORMATION DISRUPTION? (THIS IS THE LEVEL WE ARE WORKING ON, EVEN PLAQUE IS HISTORY HERE) DOES IT WORK IN THE ENAMEL MINERALIZATION..? PRODUCTION OF SECUNDARY DENTINE ? NOW THAT I AM WRITING, IT MIGHT BE ABOUT IMMUNOLOGY .. BUT STILL SCIENTIFIC STUDIES MUST BE DONE BEFORE TALKING.
THANK YOU … WE ALL CAN KEEP THE WORLD SMILING, DO YOU SEE..

  22. WHEN IT COMES TO HEALTH NO ONE HAS EVER HAD THE LAST WORLD. WHY..? BECAUSE WE ARE ALL SO UNIQUE, EACH BODY IS DIFFERENT. BUT DISCOVERING SOMETHING "BY ACCIDENT" IS VEERY COMMON .. AND SHARING IS FINE.

  23. IT'S YOUR PERSONAL OPINION AND IS RESPECTABLE .. BUT IT DOES MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE. IN FACT PEOPLE WHO KNOW THIS SAID THAT WHEN ONLY BRUSHING BECAUSE IN A HURRY OF ANY REASON, STILL FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE (ONCE ONE SEES LIGHT IS HARD TO GO BACK TO DARKNESS) BUT IF ONLY FLOSSING & NO BRUSHING, IS NOT THAT BAD.. EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT

  24. WHAT IF SOMEONE HAS HYPERTHYROIDISM ISSUES?
I MYSELF, HAS NO ISSUES WITH CONTROLLING BIOFILM, SINCE DENTAL SCHOOL DAYS, I WOULD SAY. SO I WON'T TRY IT, BUT THANKS.
BUT FOR H.O.H, WE WILL WORK ON IT… & STILL, IF THE PROTOCOL THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN USED FOR MORE THAN TWO DECADES, FOR MANY HAS AMAZING RESULTS, WHY ..?
AS A PROFESSIONAL HEALTH PRACTITIONER I DON'T THINK IS NECESSARY.
IN YOUR PARTICULAR, PERSONAL CASE IT COULD BE THAT YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM NEEDS IT, THAT IS WHY IS WORKING VERY WELL NO ONLY IN DENTAL TISSUE, BUT WITH ORAL HEALTH .
WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE DR. GREGER'S OPINION IN THIS MATTER, OR IF THEY HAVE ALREADY STUDIES DONE LINKING BIOFILM DISRUPTION & IODINE

  25. IS NOT MY PERSONAL OPINION, OR ABOUT MY OWN ORAL CARE.. LIKE MOST PEOPLE HERE .. I AM TALKING ABOUT H.O.H'S SCIENTIFIC STUDIES, FACTS AND WHAT HAVE WORK FOR MANY. HERE TO SERVE

  26. AND, PLEASE L;ET US KNOW HOW DO YOU LIKE IT. WE WILL REALLY APPRECIATE IT..!
AGAIN, IT WILL WORK ONLY AGAINST THE BIOFIL & PLAQUE .. WOULD NOT ELIMINATE THE TARTAR, BIG CALCULUS, SUBGINGIVAL CALCULUS .

  27. I always floss before I brush. It pulls out all the crud and food beforehand, while brushing afterwards just cleans in between even better. I do a Sonicare toothbrush, it REALLY cleans my teeth and gums.

  28. What a relief to finally watch a video with a somewhat real and definitive answer on a question. I find that a lot of videos on Nutritionfacts leave me confused, because there are so many complicating factors. So, this is nice for a change.

  29. I've always flossed first. It makes sense because you move around the plaque from your teeth so then brush and rinse.

  30. The Russian translating is WRONG! The translating reverse the result from "Olga Boiaryntseva", brush and then floss.

  31. Русский перевод от "Olga Boiaryntseva" НЕ ПРАВИЛЬНЫЙ! Сначала нить, потом щетка!!!

  32. Dr Greger, please do a whole book on HOW NOT TO … about oral/dental health …. especially for vegetarians. there's alot for meat eaters and dairy. good to have a book on dental health for non dairy meat eaters

  33. I always brush, floss, then brush again. I can’t imagine all those people out there who don’t floss….I suspect they are the ones with bad breath.

  34. I'd say, a preliminary brushing before flossing would be better, followed by a more thorough brushing after flossing. Maybe that's too much brushing, but it seems to work well for me. Not to mention the use of toothpicks when brushing or flossing is not an option in the moment. Also, look into adding some Amla (Gooseberries) powder to the diet.
