Friday Favorites: Kids’ Breakfast Cereals as Nutritional Façade

Plastering front-of-package nutrient claims on cereal boxes is an attempt to distract from the incongruity of feeding our children multicolored marshmallows for breakfast.

I was invited to testify as an expert witness in a case against sugary cereal companies (donating my fee, of course), and this extended video series is a result of some of the research I did into those cases. Here are some of the others:

  1. Doctor Greger, I just noticed you hit 1 million subscribers on YouTube! Congratulations, and thank you for your very informative videos!

  2. It's worth noting that the first ingredient on most sugary breakfast cerial is a whole grain. The reason why they may have more sugar than a donut is because donuts are deep fried and mostly added fat. The amount of sugar is usually about a tbsp per cup. And most people are aware that they are not healthy and most Americans i know usually at first think that a bacon egg and cheese breakfast sandwich (usually on a croissant, biscuit, white bagel or white tortilla) loaded with cholesterol, saturated fat and hormones is healthier that a whole grain sugary cereal

  3. Mozzafarian from Tuffs University made a Food Compass where cereals got 100 points as (super) healthy food (beef around 30). So hush hush, vegans, eat it, be fat and sick, but happy that you don't eat meat…

  4. ONE MILLION SUBS!!! The channel hit 900K in late December 2022 and 1 million on 10 August 2023. That's an amazing rate of growth. We could hit 1.5 million by the end of the year! Fantastic work by all concerned and, of course, particularly Dr Greger.

  5. Even children today have signs of artery disease. Fast foods and sugary drinks have long term consequences.
There is an obesity epidemic today where over 60% of the population is overweight or obese.
What is common today and "NORMAL" is not healthy. The average person today is not healthy and is taking medications.
Heart attacks were once only common in people over 65. Today people in their 40 are having heart attacks.
Add more plants and vegetables to your diet and less junk and overly processed foods

  6. Sure seems like Health Insurance Companies and Medicare would be receptive to a WFPB vegan message.
It would save them money on health care costs. This could off set the lobbying by food manufacturers.
Maybe educating health Insurance Companies and Medicare administrators should be a priority.
Health Insurance companies might even push doctors to take nutrition more seriously by paying for nutrition counseling of patients.

  7. Why do air conditioning gyms make me cold and more hungry when it's warm I'm not hungry I don't think gyms are set up properly for health

  8. American corporations happily poisoning Americans happily poisoned by pharma happily lobbied by American government. Your system is pure poison! And yanks are trying to sell that poisonous carcinogenic derelict hateful crap to the rest of the world. 🖕
