Hi nutritionfacts, I have watched a number of your videos and I have really enjoyed and have been really impressed by them. However, I have a question. Since your videos seem only to refer to non- animal products improving health, should I be suspicious of bias? Either in terms of you overly promoting non-animal products or ignoring animal products which may in fact be significantly advantageous to health? Thanks.
Seems like some Doc's love soy, while others say to avoid it….hard to discern when both sides have 'facts' to back them up.
NF advocates the plant-based diet. This isn't hidden from view. It isn't a bias. It's a conclusion drawn from available and ongoing evidence. You are free to disagree, but it's only fair that you should know the background to your observation.
Sorry,animal products are NEVER advantageous to health…especially the animals' 😀
I think you may be able to find the answer to your question by going to his website and reading and watching a bit more of his material. For anyone considering the benefits of a vegan or plant based diet, this site may be a very good resource.
Not only that, those rats were given soy isolate protein. Most people eat soy as milk or tofu, which is a more complete food!

Yeah plus I know that there was a study on a population in Japan (Okinawa) with a 4 times higher rate of centenarians than most other places in the world, and they regularly consume tofu and a mostly plant based diet – particularly heavy in sweet potatoes.
Do you think GMO soy is safe to eat? 90% of soy produced in U.S is GMO. What is your opinion. Thanks
It seems 1/2 of the women I know or did know before they passed from breast cancer, so I have many women to pass this on to.
Is that strictly true? I thought iodine was only naturally found in animal products. Also, isn't B12 not found in vegetable products. If you don't have access to B12 in artificial form you could hardly recommend a strict vegetarian diet as being the best for health.
And although your sense of humour is appreciated, when you say 'never' are you saying that because you are aware of the research or is it because you just assume it to be the case?
Thank you. I looked at the nutritionfacts website before. I like Michael Greger and think that a vegetarian diet can be healthy. But do you see my point? In the about section of his website, Dr Greger does not say he pushing for one particular diet. His site is called nutrtionfacts. Do the facts suggest that there is no basis for eating animal products for all people. If not then should he call his site nutrition facts about vegetarian diet? Again, not saying I have an answer; just interested.
I think the facts do in fact suggest that there IS no basis for eating animal products for all people with the exception of a few instances like in the case of harsh climates and if someone is on the brink of extreme starvation and even then animal based goods should be consumed very sparingly if at all from what I can tell. A few scientists who spoke on TED mentioned that man had a few adaptations in his biological makeup to consume animal based goods but mainly in the form of dairy, not meat.
I've read that it is possible to get both vitamin B12 AND iodine from maca root. Unfortunately, I seem to be able to only find maca root in supplemental form where I live.
Plus, even some of those who consume animal based foods are still not getting enough vitamin B12 or even vitamin D3.
I've also read that mushrooms exposed to sunlight can be very good sources of vitamin D2.

I hear soy isnt that good for men since it has higher concentrates of estrogen's. likewise probably bad for kids in general since it speeds up puberty for females and reduces for male. unless a guy wants to have a baby face 😛
Since becoming vegan,i've spent heaps of time educating myself,can i suggest you read The China Study by Dr Campbell as well as the works of Dr Barnard,McDougall,Esseltyn and of course Dr Greger 🙂
Mosly mamary tumors esp the females. I have rescued pet rats for almost 20 years now and had my share of female rats getting tumors, it's not fun.

Ah yes,the very plausible situation where you're stuck on a desert island and you've got no other choice that hunting that wild pig down,its him or you! This is a question we can only answer when the situation arises,how far are you prepared to go?I can return the question,are you prepared to kill & eat your dog/cat/etc…if you're starving and at the point of death?Of course,we will do what we have to survive in extreme situations.Are you living one right now,don't you have a choice??

(As an aside I am currently strongly considering becoming vegan so you don't attack my character in response as most vegans are quick to do when presented with a challenge)
also factor in that any diet where you are fed a single food source will have detrimental impacts on health and the rat studies become almost redundant

Lol well, good for you,i strongly encourage you to look into it,i did,i've been educating myself for 3 years now after watching Gary Yourofsky's speech,look it up,it turned me vegan overnight.There's heaps of studies out there,read the China Study by Dr Colin Campbell,check Dr Barnard,McDougall,Esselstyn,…and of course Dr Greger 🙂
The china study is a hack job of science. Anyone with a background in science knows it is a co-relation argument and co-relation does NOT equal causation.
There are nutritional benefits to eating meat/dairy no matter what nutrition facts .org says, the current consumption quantities are detrimental to health and unnecessary but that doesn't change the fact that whey for example is anti microbial and extremely beneficial to health in people who have no allergies to it.
Could you envisage a world where you ate meat and dairy if it were ethically consumed. (Animals were allowed to die of natural causes and milking only occurred after weaning the calves?)

Obesity for example is as a result of caloric surplus not meat consumption.
Meat consumption is co related but not the causal issue.

Cheese is a delicious and very healthy when consumed in appropriate quantities. If it were produced ethically would you actually want to infringe on someones right to consume it based on solely health grounds?
I have no doubt all this is true…just wondering: I have heard that I should avoid soy since I have hypothyroidism. Would love to ingest it for cancer prevention, though. Any advice?
Wow, thanks for sharing! My mom, aunt & both sisters had breast cancer. We were part of the original breast cancer gene studies. I have been eating soy for decades and I'm the only adult female without breast cancer in my immediate family. I would bet that none of my family has ever consciously eaten soy. My response to Angolina Jolie's decision…I can't imagine having missed one of the best decisions of my life: breastfeeding my 3 daughters…whose high genetic chances of cancer, research shows, are reduced as a result. Raw or fermented soy? I began drinking soy milk when I saw this video but today I found an article that says that soy accelerates the growth of cancer, so I began doing a research on pubmed and I found this: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24375531. Soy accelerates gowth in ER-negative cancers, and most of the BRCA cancers are ER-negative, I don't now anymore what to believe in!
Will soy isoflavone have a bad impact on a females estrogen levels, if she is consuming soy products to prevent breast cancer?

Would it stand to reason, then, that those with other SNPs (not BRCA) that result in poor estrogen metabolism and toxic estrogen metabolites should still avoid soy? It seems the benefit is really for BRCA patients, no?
