  1. I think the cartoon is cute! I hope all cruciferous vegetables have the same effect because I find kale smoothies and salads to the most adorable way to get them into my body.

  2. I'll tick most of you off, I LIKE the animated doc. Although with such a somber and serious subject, it may be ill placed.

  3. Don’t like the cartoon. Would rather see the real you.

I would still really like to know if cruciferous vegetables actually work, rather than making assumptions.
What if they compared a cruciferous group with a non-cruciferous vegetable group? So they both ate extra veg, but each emphasising different types?

  4. I have a question: from what I understand, as a post-menopausal woman, I need a good amount of (good) fat to help regulate my hormones. So is it more important to eat cruciferous vegetables and not worry about the fact I'm getting 35% of calories from fat? I'm confused. I mean, you can eat a lot of cruciferous vegetables and a lot of fat as well. It doesn't seem like Dr. Greger mentioned studies that pointed to a combination of the veg along with a low fat diet at the same time, did he?

  5. On the contrary… this week research

Peroxidation of n-3 and n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids in the acidic tumor environment leads to ferroptosis-mediated anticancer effects. Cell Metabolism, 2021; DOI: 10.1016/j.cmet.2021.05.016

    https://www.genengnews.com/news/mechanism-identified-by-which-omega-3-fatty-acid-is-poison-to-tumors/

The team’s analyses showed that DHA acts on tumor cells via a phenomenon called ferroptosis, a type of cell death that is linked to the peroxidation of certain fatty acids. The greater the amount of unsaturated fatty acids in the cell, the greater the risk of their oxidation. Normally, in the acidic compartment within tumors, cells store these fatty acids in lipid droplets, a kind of bundle in which fatty acids are protected from oxidation. But in the presence of a large amount of DHA, the tumor cell is overwhelmed and cannot store the DHA, which oxidizes and leads to cell death.

  6. If the sulforaphane was suspected to be the mechanistic ingredient, they could probably give them both broccoli, but deactivate the glucosinolates in the placebo by cooking or something.

  7. I still love the iloccor-B story. (And: if you have a cartoon presence, you've ARRIVED! ;D )
I wonder if any research has been done into how broccoli is so effective. Could it be sulforaphane?

  8. I think it‘s time for Nutritionfacts to show us more faces than Greger alone. Nutritionfacts should be a team of frontmen and frontwomen and become a self-sustaining organization like any other big NGO.

  9. What about the benefits of a higher fat (plant sources only) vegan diet? Is low fat always better? I don’t feel good low fat…I need more.

  10. Great info but the cartoon Dr. Michael avatar has to go. It's not creepy enough to have reached the "uncanny valley," but it is disturbingly on its way there.

  11. So happy to be watching this after eating a plate of whole wheat pasta with a ton of broccoli and mushrooms (made a creamy sauce with cashew butter and hot water) Yay broccoli! 🥦 I did have a glass of red wine with it 😬 (nobody’s perfect!)

  12. Harmless compound/food with several metastudies, and loads of persistent epidemiological correlations indicating beneficial, if variably so effects on human health, exists

MDs: "The existing data still fall a bit short of proving…"

Ridiculously expensive synthetic drug with common side effects that span several pages, whose benefits still aren't proven in over 50% of patients exist

same MDs: "It's a perfectly safe medicine, and to be honest everyone should take some, people are getting paranoid and obsessed by pseudoscience…"

I'm sorry but the medical field "experts" (not PhD's in science, but mostly MDs who happen to do scientific studies too) will have one set of standards for treatments/therapeutics which aren't used in clinical settings or/nor are paid by insurance (or the patient ofc), and completely another set of standards for the treatments/therapeutics which are widely available, cheep, accessible and proven ad nauseum to be several millions times safer than even your average OTC antacid or analgesic.

  13. We love broccoli sprouts in this house and I think it's amazing that it helps with cancer in humans… and when my dog got cancer I started to feed him broccoli sprouts every single day thinking it would help.. it did not he lived for 4 weeks with lymph node cancer so sad but now I know we tried as much as we could

  14. Your personality is so adorable, that mini pause before you say something – "not so obvious". I enjoyed watching the video so much! Thank you for sharing yourself to the world! Much love from Canada.

  15. I believe that eating broccoli is an excellent idea wether you have cancer or not.
Of the few people who I knew that died of cancer, none of those people had any recommendations of what to eat and not to eat from their doctors.

  16. Low-fat diets are just stupid! Low carbs will save many people! It's all about the kind of fat you consume! This guy is handpicking studies that he likes! Do not trust him on everything he says, although he does sometimes have some good advice! To me, he looks like a pile of bones with no muscles ready to fall apart at any moment!!

  17. When I hear broccoli, I automatically think estrogen. Why? Because cruciferous vegetables in general lowers estrogen and excess estrogen causes cancer growth. There you go….

  18. I see that they mentioned green tea in the paper on what to tell women when treating breast cancer…. A tea less known internationally – but with even MORE good stuff than green tea – is Rooibos, or Red Bush, tea. So try to make the change from green to red tea if you can get hold of it. 😉

  19. A suggestion. Instead of the cartoon of your good self, perhaps just show relative graphs, pictures or info cards etc to what you're speaking about at the time. That way we don't have to pause the video so much to study the graphics which interrupts your speech. Or just the graphic from your podcast would suffice. No need for a talking head if you can't spare the time from your busy schedule to film yourself. Just my two bob 🙂

Anyway, always happy to hear anything from your apparently bottomless font of knowledge! May you continue your helpful healing ways for many more decades.

  20. No cartoon please … you don't want people confuse your channel with "what i'v learned" or 'in a nutshell" or "kurgresaght" … (which are industries propaganda)

  21. Do you know what Cancer is? It's life. It's living cells. Of course reducing the intake of fat reduces their growth. Reduce eating in GENERAL and you'll reduce their growth! Am I surprised that eating indigestible foods helps? Of course not. Because that's almost as good as not eating at all. You're just starving the tumor. But eat a hugely nutritious high fat, high calorie meal, and yea… both YOU and the CANCER will feel good and thrive. Asking people to eat nothing but vegetables is a proxy for asking them to eat less in general.

  22. Dr, have a look into research on CD47 – Stanford, Cardiff Uni school of medicine in Wales, AXL Oncology in California. This is big. They are talking about switching off the ability of the cancer cell from sending out a "don't eat me" signal to phagocytes attacking. They have a protein that stops the CD47 on the cancer cells surface. This action covers all cancer types. Trials are under way in Wales, Stanford and AXL has approval from the FDA to trial.

  23. "oh yeah, let me reduce my fat intake from 28.5% to… 28.9%!! What a wonderful reduction, i'm feeling much better"

  24. IN THE NURSES HEALTH STUDIES – HIGH FAT INTAKE HAD NO INFLUENCE ON BREAST CANCER OR ANY OTHER CANCER.
ACCORDING TO WALTER WILLETT, THE MOST CITED NUTRITIONIST IN THE WORLD IT'S NOT THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF FAT IN THE DIET, IT'S THE TYPE OF FAT. THE MOST CITED NUTRITIONIST IN THE WORLD, WALTER WILLETT SAYS SATURATED FAT IS THE PROBLEM.
THE MOST CITED NUTRITIONIST IN THE WORLD, WALTER WILLETT SAYS MONOUNSATURATED AND POLYUNSATURATED FATS ARE GOOD FOR HEALTH. THE MOST CITED NUTRITIONIST IN THE WORLD, WALTER WILLETT SAYS VEGETABLE OILS ARE VERY HEALTHY AND HE HAS THEM ON THE SECOND TIER OF HIS FOOD GUIDE PYRAMID.
WALTER WILLETT SAYS OMEGA 6 FATS ARE GOOD FOR HEALTH AND POSSIBLY BETTER THAN OMEGA 3!
