  1. very interesting, I keep having same weight even though I exercise and I eat a WFPBD with restricted eating up until 7pm everyday maybe I'm drinking little water? I'll try this out

  2. I wanna test to see if water causes weight loss. I'll give em an extra glass of water a day and put 'em on a restricted calorie diet. That will do the trick.

  3. I don't want to see you during these vids. I don't want to watch you gesticulate or take up the screen. You look great during your lectures and I'm glad you have personality, but it's obnoxious during the 5 minute vids. I like the previous method. Besides, you'll never outdo Charlie Chaplin.

  4. 2.7 L for me…ugh! But wondering if it's even possible to get kids to drink 2 L per day ??!! I know this counts water in foods, but still. That's a lot of water for them.

  5. One possible mechanism of action is the more you drink the more you have to go pee, equals more activity which equals more weight loss. I'd be really surprised if this aspect wouldn't play in at all.

  7. I just want to clarify, does the 2 cups need to be in one sitting or can it be spread out over time?
    I drink 8 glasses of water daily but just sip throughout the day, I don't think I've ever even drank 1 cup in a single sitting.

  8. Small note, the proof-pudding saying is: “The proof of the pudding is in the tasting.” This is very much in the spirit of the famous Greger: “put it to the test.” It is such a funny thing to say “the proof is in the pudding.” This latter mangling is sadly now the common usage.

    I love the consistent presentation of nutrition research that you provide here! The world and humanity need it.

  9. I’ve been starting to feel nauseous if I drink too much water especially during my workout. I don’t think I could force myself to drink 2 cups before a meal without throwing it up

  10. Pun-O-Mania! Ha-ha! This was interesting to me, as someone who drinks several glasses of water daily and notices when she has fallen short. TFP!

  11. Guess what? Drinking more water makes you hold less electrolytes, because you pee more out, leading to weight loss. But that weight is just water weight you will gain back once you stop drinking all that extra water.

  12. Awesome! I wonder if that 30% is enough to offset the fact that people eat way too much. Although, if it's true what they say, that males consume 2500 on average, that's definitely more than 30% overeating, not so sure about that one. Every little bit helps though! Great video Dr. Greger! =)

  14. Does the temp of the water help with thermogenesis because I recall seeing one of the papers saying 21-22. My ice machine is broken and here in FL you can make tea out of the "cold" tap water… it can be over 100 F!

  18. A question about the larger paradigm of metabolic rate. I had a conversation with someone who was a lifelong touring cyclist. She claimed to have had an analysis that revealed a low natural respiration rate as well as a very low calorie baseline, and that these were her "natural" metabolic biomarkers. Has anyone heard of anything like this? It would indeed suck to be stuck with the metabolism of a Tuatara.

  19. As for the video itself, looks like calorie-free liquid satiety. If people who want to feel "full" drink water before fueling up, less room in the tank.

  21. why would anyone sane ignore the thirst instinct? drink only when you are thirsty. excessive drinking of water will only dilute stomach acid, disrupt digestion, and lead to electrolyte secretion. there are also reported deaths due to excessive water consumption.

  22. Less, normal or increased? If someone drinks less, his own handicap. It is clear that drinking cold water will burn more calories. Guess what ? Something that stays in the stomach longer and increases the time between meals will reduce the total amount of calories by being less hungry. Water ? I think Guar Gum is a better powerful ingredient.

  23. He doesn't elaborate on the temperature of the water. So I have to wonder whether green tea, if drunk hot, (cited on the 21 tweaks program) counts for this????

  24. I have recently had a vasovagal syncope event – the feelings of a syncope coming on (for me) can be reduced by drinking water…better this than a cardio arhythmia..

  25. Let's see…. I'm 50 pounds overweight. I eat about 5,000 calories a day. Losing one pound of fat in a week requires a caloric deficit of 500 calories based on a 3500 calorie a day diet. Using water I can use up 100 calories a day….. fail.
