  1. His voice is so annoying why can't he talk normal? Anyway longest living people (blue zones) eat small amount of animal proteins so you can''t claim a WFPB diet is the most optimal one.

  2. As a behavioral health professional I am biased but after all the research i have read from the good doctor I keep coming back to the essential problem is a behavioral health one not a physical health one. Just like smoking, it is not a lack of knowledge about the dangers of a unhealthy diet that is the issue but a lack of psychological insight that prevents people from making the changes to their behaviors. you dont need to see a doctor or nurse you need to see a therapist. but like i said i am biased.

  3. Meh bullshit, another attack on organic meat, the problem is not the meat it’s the nasty vegetable oils, nasty sugars in snacks and soft drinks, etc.

  4. Who cares, they will get healtheir if they adhere to the diet richer in whole foods, let's leave that alone a bit and focus on autism, ibs, ibd, ms, cfs etc.. because we need smart people like you to come up with something from all the studies done, I honestly don't know how you do it, good job and keep up the good work. Wish some tax payer money went into researching the research done like you guys do, can we start a movement?

  5. Love this video as it touches on points I care about. Testing the optimal diet in the community where they already love and teaching people to maintain that way of living after the course is done. I live in public housing but am fortunate to live down the street from two community gardens and a wonderful farmers market. It has taken almost a year to figure out how to incorporate more veggies in my diet. I have only recently eliminated eggs and dairy. Seriously considering only adding back fish and chicken I farm myself only when I get my own home. I started a balcony garden and wish I had a program to help me before my thyroid issues and excess weight issue occurred. Chip sounds like thrive or pure plant project which I thought were wonderful, but can't come close to affording.

  6. According to Harvard School of Public Health the "Optimal Diet" contains also fish and poultry.

In their article "Becoming a vegetarian" they point out that "A purely vegetarian diet is not necessarily better than a plant-based diet that also includes fish or poultry. For example, in a pooled analysis of data from the Oxford Vegetarian Study and EPIC-Oxford, fish-eaters had a lower risk of certain cancers than vegetarians".

  7. Whole foods are healthy….. Yep.
100% plantbased is healthy,…. Yep, if you don't mind having to supplement to compensate for the few deficiencies that can result from avoiding all animal products completely.

  8. Shining a light on the history of doctors who advocated a healthy diet by way of wfpb nutrition is a great idea. It really helps normalize the practice. It's not a radical idea.

  9. I really like your educational videos, they digest studies without the need to really dig deep into actual research and reading.

Would you take a bit of criticism or maybe non-professional advice?
The ending is a bit sudden and i couldn't really enjoy internalizing your information ..maybe try to recap the presented information and distill it in a short summary? 🙂

Thanks for your video and your time, i enjoy seeing more of your content 🙂

  10. wow nutrition facts saying wfpb is optimal? who would've guessed? Why even make the damn video? Preaching to the choir.

Also, most annoying voice of all time.

  11. That "put it to the test" statement needs a re-tread. It is boring, trite and usually not true. In this case the data sounds very good.

The problem is that the food industry has been ripping at this problem from the other side and they know well, maybe going back hundreds or years as to how to adulterate the food of the masses.

What it is going to take to stop and reverse this problem is an almost authoritarian regimentation of people so they can avoid the brainwashing of the food industries back when they are tiny babies and all as they grow up.

How is that ever going to happen, and so as it does not happen, the food industry gets stronger and stronger and hooked in more with other industries, pharma, petro-chemicals, health-care, and mostly advertising … lying … they just lie to tell us what to eat and if our paents are victimes of the system so shall we be.

  12. Dr. Greger, thank you for all that you are doing to help others! I buy your book for each of my clients!! So appreciative for the hours and hours that you and your team spend to get us evidence based information that helps us thrive!!!

  13. Blue Zones diets are only nearly vegan altho probably should be taking b12 supplement if nearly vegan. Pritikin diet was also only nearly vegan and probably better to take b12 supplement just to be sure. Dr Dean Ornish diet allows some fish oil supplement, egg whites and 0 fat dairy, probably also needs b12 supplement. I have no idea if an unrefined vegan diet with b12 supplement can beat the blue zones diets. Adventists tend to use some refined substances like oil and vegan fake meats. In the adventist health study 2, longevity was about the same for the 4 health conscious groups: 1. vegan with b12. 2. ovolactovegetarian. 3. seafood eaters. 4. those who had animal products about once a month. Not sure if differences in longevity among the 4 adventist groups would have been larger had the adventists not been using refined substances like oil since animal products are sort of also junk food with 0 fiber. Not sure if unrefined vegans with b12 could beat the diet of those who consume small amounts of junk food animal products.

  14. I think something that needs to be addressed is the idea that humans became big brained and intelligent through cooking meat and eating it. This suggestion by researchers drives me nuts, as if the anthropologists suddenly forget how evolution really works. There are points never raised that debunk the cooking made humans claim. Humans already had the wherewithal to develop cooking before cooking could give them the brain type to come up with the idea to cook in the first place. Humans were already developing the creative brain long before they started that. Humans develop the creative intellect through intention. That is how it started, and how it continues. Early humans went, 'hey, that thing over there is neat. I can use that. But I can also think of something better'. What makes us human is nothing more than the intent to better ourselves. In other words, let us remember how evolution works: When a species mutates, if that mutation gives the species good survival, that mutation becomes a specialty, and the specialty is developed through its practice. It is true of all species' specializations. This is how it works.

  15. I am a big fan of the CHIP program, and have done it twice, and will begin another round on August 13! I love Dr. Diehl too! He is just so wonderful. The program works! The sessions are scheduled to accommodate people who work during the day as well. It teaches how to prepare the foods, how to shop with a local grocery store guided tour. The cost of the program includes a light meal at each session, the beginning and ending blood work and evaluation, plus a lot of camaraderie and exchanging of successes and encouragements and even a little fun competition among the groups. The alumni meetings during the months after help you to maintain your health by continuing to offer encouragement and fellowship, as well as a nice potluck dinner to share your new food preparation skills! Our meetings will be on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings at 6 pm for 4 weeks in our town. Learning how to follow the Optimal Diet, a plant-based whole foods plan is made easy with this program!

  16. Refined sugar causes heart disease. There is no perfect diet, it totally depends on what bacteria you have in your gut to break down the food. I personally don’t have the biome to digest beans and most nuts and seeds. There is no way I could go without meat, I would get too little protein.

  17. The reason the rich had higher rates of cancer and heart disease is because they were able to afford healthcare, get diagnosed and investigate and identify causes of death… while in the case of the poor who died of heart disease nobody cared, they labeled it "died of natural causes" or "god's will" or "old age", it still happens in third world countries today.

  18. It’s proven that all cooked food causes autoimmune reactions in the body. The optimal diet is raw fruit! Cooked food causes ALL disease. NO other animal cooks its food and they suffer virtually NO disease!

  19. I just watched a video about Rat lung worm that are affecting people’s food garden and making people sick. They are telling to not eat vegetables from the own garden because of the health risks. The video was from a Youtuber called: paranoid times.

Kinda scary to see how unsafe things are. You try to eat healthy and all that but then something like this happen.

  20. Flaw found. Js I don't eat animals. Although this is not that. The reason is price of doctors. If you're poor no one cares why you died. The reason is also medical technology.

  21. Does anybody talk about the cancerous PESTICIDES inside regular supermarket vegetables and fruits?
Arent they dangerous for humans? By eating a plant based diet, you must consume a lot of those chemicals (fertilizers, pesticides)…

Im tryin to go VEGAN, but this is a topic thats kind of holding me back.

  22. Please make a video of the perfect diet because i have no idea what to eat/ buy at the grocery store

  23. Dear Dr Greger – Not sure if this is the best of your excellent videos for my comments but as a 1 year Vegan and advocate I was very concerned over YT videos from Daphne Reloaded who after 10 years as a vegan now makes claims about the dangers from most vegan foods – culminating in a recommendation to eat meats, eggs and dairy. This could be believed by many coming from a recent "ex vegan". The second comment is regarding Dr Darren Schmidt. who attended a lecture by you and Dr. McDougall and explained how you both misunderstand the Keto process in preventing lactic acidosis ("Veganism vs. Ketosis and meat eating. Drs. Greger and McDougall."). He also recommends raw and cooked meats. Hope for your usual science/study based refutations of their main arguments. Chris S.

  24. Does anyone have any good information on how similar insect protien is to other meats? I understand that protien is not at all an issue on a plant based diet, but I have read some interesting information on the unique beneficial bacteria our guts produce when we eat them, and they are a natural, whole food source of b12.

Just wonder if it causes the blood stream to contain elavated tmao like red meat/eggs

  25. What about the fact that human burn fats? Plants are very low in healthy dietary fats thus we have little energy to burn. Makes regular exercise difficult, your trading heart disease for a plethora of others.

  26. I was discussing this with some staunch meat eaters, it was actually from another video where Greger starts the video with the story about his grandmother. One of the guys used to work with terminally ill and aging patients as a nurse and was absolutely adamant that there'd be no way someone could go from having such a serious health condition and being wheelchair bound to walking 10 miles a day, in only 3 weeks. I wouldn't like to see any exaggerations as I know the facts and figures are so strong to advocate for a diet void of animal products anyway and when there is exaggeration, then all other facts can easily lose credibility to the audience. Is there any actual documentation of this rapid recovery anywhere, or may it have been slightly fabricated for the wow affect? Would be awesome if it was true!

  27. They—the government—have known this information for all this time?! It’s so unbelievable. Why can’t we all just get together and sue the government for hiding this information from us and being responsible for so much death??

  28. I've never been one for community activism. I mean, we have unlimited information on dieting and exercise out there. I got overweight and my legs started swelling, so I stopped eating fried potatoes and eggs for breakfast, had a bowl of oatmeal and took a half hour walk. After a couple months it stopped and I lost some weight. I have tried a couple diets and listen to nutritionfacts and arranged my own diet which is inexpensive and healthy. I guess it's a good idea, but it's not for me. We're moving to healthier eating. It just takes a long time to move an entire population.

  29. Drop most dairy except limited Vitamin K2 cheeses, cut out egg yolks. Then eat meat as a condiment not as a staple. Eats lots of vegetables, salads, beans & lentils. Mix & match them with lean cut small portion meats. Add grains to your diet with high soluble fiber. Then get exercise by walking, running & weights. Drink good amount of water

  30. What do you think of the views of Dr. Malcolm Kendrick, who shows that LDL or Cholesterol actually has a PROTECTIVE effect on the heart?

  31. more cherry picking stats possibly. people die from CAD when they live longer than they did in year 1900. Rich people live longer than poor. etc. Gregor is on right track, however, since he titled this Optimal Diet even though he left the topic at the title.

  32. Doctor, I'm always in doubt about diet, your articles are pretty convincing that vegetable diets are better, that keto diet is better than high carbohydrate diet, but the teachers at my college of physical education continue to show some appreciation in carbohydrates, and further demonstrate articles that do not demonstrate benefits of ketogenic diets

  33. Pritikin and Ornish were not the first at all. Plant based diets go back many many centuries ago. If you read Maimonides texts and older there are many reports. Obvious you don't do your research well

  34. In my ventures into genealogy, and the old diocese death books back into the 19th century I found that many people died of what in German was termed "Wassersucht" (water retention), a tell-tale sign of heart failure. So, the reason for lower heart disease rates in olden times is probably also misdiagnosis.
