Risposta dell'industria delle uova a colina e TMAO
In che modo l'industria delle uova ha finanziato uno studio progettato per coprire la reazione tossica dell'ossido di trimetilammina al consumo di uova.

what about the white only?
Thank you for that nice video!
I thought a lack of choline increases the risk of cancer. Can you clarify this for me, please?
That level of corruption is sad š
Thank you for saving lives Dr. Greger!
I don't get it though, if your liver could remove the TMAO is half a day, then why does it matter if you eat eggs? Does this only work in the short-term, and in the long term your liver won't be able to remove the TMAO, or what?
I love your videos, book and overall commitment to helping people learn ways to be healthy.
Great choice of vintage tech picture. RIP Dennis Ritchie, what a legend
The problem is not choline itself. Although choline is the starting material for the production of TMAO, the real villains are carnitine and the TMAO-producing bacteria associated with meat-eating. Many plant foods (e.g., soy beans and broccoli) contain almost as much choline as eggs, yet because the microbiome of 100% plant-eaters contains a different profile of bacteria, we do not see high levels of TMAO in this population.
Nice, another whammy! GetĀ wrekt Big Agro, science is not your friend.
Egg-, Meat and dairy Industry are the biggest liarsĀ Ā ….lol
You pick only vegan friendly studies
4:50 So the gut bacteria are the bad guys?
thank you
Wow, talk about cherry picking data and forming a conclusion using the single cause logical fallacy.
…….tasty tasty doom?
From what I've read, and according to the movie "The Widow Maker," the best indicator of risk of a pending heart attack is a Coronary Calcium Score. So, if there's a simple, cheap metabolite test that can screen for calcium accumulation in the arteries, I think that would be the magic test. Incidentally, vitamin K2 is what directs arterial calcium to its proper place in our bodies, our bones and teeth. For vegans, that would mean consuming natto, fermented soy.
genio š
I think there's more to it…
1. The original study showing diet increases postprandial TMAO in humans used 2 eggs (4:34), whereas the egg study Dr Greger references at the end (5:19) only used 6 egg/wk and measured fasting TMAO. A more recent study showed that it takes a meal of 2 or more egg yolks to significantly increase postprandial TMAO, with a peak at 8hrs.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4135488/
So the egg board study would fail to pick up TMAO changes on two counts – not enough eggs and fasting measurements.
2. Gut microbiota influences the ability of egg/beef to increase TMAO. However, fish contains preformed TMAO, and a meal of cod fillet increased blood levels around 50 times more than eggs/beef!
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27377678
Yet a review of the current evidence (mostly observational studies) shows fish consumption is associated with lower risk of CVD?!
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3705336/
Interestingly, in animal models, fish protein increases TMAO and promotes CVD.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26502377
However, fish oil protects against metabolic effects of TMAO, and therefore perhaps other things?
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25686243
3. The difference between postprandial and fasting TMAO may be important. The diet studies show you can increase postprandial TMAO, but the metabolomic studies show that fasting TMAO predicts CVD.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3086762/
Since the body can normally clear TMAO fairly well, elevated fasting TMAO might suggest clearance/kidney problems.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5127123/
Note, fasting TMAO was still lower in vegans and vegetarians than omnivores.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3650111/
4. Other dietary factors have also been shown to modulate blood TMAO.
High-fat meals increase postprandial TMAO.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=high+fat+diet+tmao
Whereas fruit (apple sauce) decreased postprandial TMAO.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27377678
So does diet regulate more than just microbial TMA production, perhaps also endogenous TMA oxidation (FMO3), TMAO clearance and TMAO pathogenicity?
Holy cow! This was disturbing and convincing all at the same time. We love eggs. Giving up Huevos Rancheros is going to be very difficult.
isnt choline an essential nutritional component?
What was that word of the year? Post-truth? LOL
Uhh, honestly is there any shadier industries than the meat, dairy egg ones? Maybe sugar. But what a joke they are. I can hardly wait for the day when the masses know the truth. Goodbye liars
I picked up your book today š
Sorry I missed you at Veg Fest, hopefully you'll be at the next one.
Big headline this morning on MSN…"Eating an egg a day can stop you from getting a stroke".Ā The unnamed study MSN referred to was published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition. I'd sure like to hear more details about the study.
But what about the studies that show that inflammation is the culprit in CHD?
You're ruining meat eating for me
wow! Thank you so much for all of the amazing knowledge you share with us!!!
I have a 6month old and I'm being pressured by her pediatrician to give her blended steak for iron!!! I exclusively breastfeed. Do you have any insight I could share with my pediatrician to help her be more open minded to the idea of a vegan baby??!!
It would be interesting to see if soy or sunflower based phosphaditylcholine supplementation would cause a rise in TMAO.
Right! A year from now 5 studies will show eggs are good for you !
Thank you for this one. I really like how you showed the way the egg industry rigged their results. Keep up the great work. I've already bought your book for four people! It also turned my boyfriend Whole food Vegan!
So basically our gut bacteria is killing us. A sterile gut is what makes us healthy.
…so egg whites? Are they good for you or not. I think the take away from the video says all eggs are bad.
Powerful.
Lol what a scam of a study. The last one.
An explanation of why the reduction of TMAO levels after that period by the kidneys didn't alleviate the effects would have been helpful.
Now that makes way more sense than the cholesterol talking that I see spread around vegan's channels. This would match the fact that okinawas consume meat once or twice a month with no impact on their health cause their gut bacteria just ignores the L-carnitine and Choline.
I have consumed eggs in abundance for past 53 years. Just had full heart MRI, guess what, perfect cardio vascular health. No furring, no arterial damage, nada, nout, zilch……….
Choline is an essential nutrient though, TMAO or no TMAO. We need it. Just font get it from meat dairy or eggs. If the sources of choline from plant foods give us TMAO, so be it. We need choline.
meat and bread and milk and cancer and good luck
Can you please comment on this latest egg study? http://heart.bmj.com/content/early/2018/04/17/heartjnl-2017-312651 It's been in the news all week. There must be something wrong with the methodology but I cannot tell
Dr. Greger, thank you so much for FINALLY allowing people to access information about how to stay healthy by eating healthy! The food industry, mainly meat, egg, and dairy industries have been allowed to spread false and misleading information that is killing people every day. Your videos are so easy to watch and understand — you take a complex subject and make it easy to understand. All people who care about their health owe you a huge debt of gratitude!
But I love eggs and meat ; ; dammit it's either vegan and boring taste or yummu and die early hmm…life choices.
He talks like Chris Hansen on Dateline NBC!
What about the Choline in soy?
Wow! š²
WRONG
In the study at 3:05 (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3086762/) they measured fasting plasma levels of TMAO
"Fasting plasma levels of TMAO, choline and betaine were quantified by LC/MS/MS using methods specific for each analyte (Supplementary Fig. 8)"
If carnivores have normal TMAO in fasted state like you are acknowledging at 5:13, this proves nothing. Take this video down it is misleading information.
But if it goes back down after 12 hours, then wouldn't that mean they don't have high TMAO levels? Its seems to me more misleading to do the tests right after consumption.
Dr greger do not join the vegan cult, provide accurate health information, you do not have to go against any non vegetarian for just for the heck of it
I hate morally superior vegans…..
Oh, Ok. So it looks like LDL wasnt the cause after all so now were on to new initials like TMAO and new medications. Cant wait to try some. Hope they're not as deadly as those statins.
Thanks for doing the research and posting! Sickening how devious some 'scientists' have become!
Thanks a lot, i appreciate all your efforts
To spread the knowledge.
What about choline in beans ? same effect ?
Don't we need choline to live?
Thanks for putting out the truth here.
So no long term effects of eating eggs? TMAO levels drop down to baseline? Good. I think I will still eat eggs in addition to my plant based diet, so I can get enough choline to think. Thanks.
I saw this through a add
That thumbnail
This is no.1 bullshit. This is a propaganda by the supplement industry, where in you have to rely heavily on supplements for the lack of omega 3 and vitamin D3 and Vitamin B12. Don't buy this guy's assumptions
What type of goddamn egg is that
We donāt want This egg under your bed tonight. If you just like the video and subscribe UselessTime in the NEXT 4 SECONDS! You need to find useless memes #29
Can anyone tell me what that thumbnail meme is called?
Is choline not involved in removing ammonia from the body. Also research in Amsterdam showed people with OPS (painters disease) had low levels of choline in their brains.

@0:05 THE EGG HAD THE OLD MAN FACE!!!!! š±š±š±š±š±
Lm
Considering Choline deficiency appears to be a significant risk factor for dementia in vegetarians (and a lot of omnivores as well) I'm curious if there is any way to test if taking choline supplements (not eggs, etc.) on a vegan/vegetarian diet (assuming the gut bugs have adapted to not produce TMA) would cause TMA production? Otherwise, we have a bit of a nutritional Catch-22 Here's a background article – https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6213596/

those in the comments saying after 12hrs TMAO is cleared from their body so it is ok to eat eggs , didn't you hear all animal products do raise TMAO levels so eat breakfast and fast for 12 hrs think people it is not that hard
Thanks
So does this mean that the harmful effects are transitory and only last a little while or is there a cumulative effect that causes the increased risk to remain high?
What about more recent studies that say eggs might not raise TMAO much, whereas supplements do raise TMAO and may not be bioavailable?
