17-part video series? My videos were much shorter back then, but still! Here you go if you want to put the whole discovery in context and get the detailed mechanism:
• Doping With Beet Juice (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/doping-with-beet-juice/)
• Priming the Proton Pump (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/priming-the-proton-pump/)<br />• Don’t Use Antiseptic Mouthwash (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/dont-use-antiseptic-mouthwash/)

• So Should We Drink Beet Juice or Not? (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/so-should-we-drink-beet-juice-or-not/)

Wait, that’s only 16. I think at the time I was also including Meat Additives to Diminish Toxicity (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/meat-additives-to-diminish-toxicity/).

How else can we support athletic performance? See:
• Reducing Muscle Fatigue with Citrus (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/reducing-muscle-fatigue-with-citrus/)
• Reducing Muscle Soreness with Berries (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/reducing-muscle-soreness-with-berries/)
• Preventing Exercise-Induced Oxidative Stress With Watercress (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/preventing-exercise-induced-oxidative-stress-with-watercress/)

On the other hand, Paleo Diets May Negate Benefits of Exercise (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/Paleo-Diets-May-Negate-Benefits-of-Exercise).

It’s great that we can improve athletic performance eating a few beets, but what about people who could really benefit from a more efficient use of oxygen? That’s the subject of my next video, Oxygenating Blood With Nitrate-Rich Vegetables (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/oxygenating-blood-with-nitrate-rich-vegetables)

Have a question for Dr. Greger about this video? Leave it in the comment section at http://nutritionfacts.org/video/whole-beets-vs-juice-for-improving-athletic-performance and he’ll try to answer it!

86 Risposte a “Whole Beets vs. Juice for Improving Athletic Performance”

  1. I understand it's better to eat food as unprocessed as possible. I have always wondered if soya beans and tempeh are better than tofu. Thanks for your great vids!

  2. Oh wow!! That last sentence really says it all doesn't it??? Every time my husband's friend comes in for a visit and the subject veers towards health and he starts to complain about how awful he feels and he can't do anything about it cause it ALL runs in his family..I grit my teeth and try not to get too snarky when I say (and I always feel compelled to do so, can't help myself), "Genetics only LOADS the gun…lifestyle PULLS the trigger".. he gives me a blank stare and says, 'yeah' and then the subject is changed. SMH……. like you said, God forbid they change their dietary habits to improve their health…Jeeze…

  3. Heaven's forbid what if I go vegan and save my health, save the animals and save the earth 😃😃😃😃😂😂😂😂

Much love to you Dr. Greger ❤

  4. A Chemical Brothers reference in a Nutrition Facts video?! No waaaaayyyyyyy! As a Slavic vegan, I eat beets often, so I find this beet-based magic elixir stuff a bit silly, as well as intriguing. Thanks for posting!

  5. Did we answer the title of the video? A new study shows whole beats can improve performance but did I miss how that correlates against beet juice? The title implies a comparison but the way I understood the video is that whole cooked beets also showed improvements compared to placebo. Im currently taking powdered beet root and powdered arugula as supplements for its ease of administration – not a fan of beet juice taste. So I wonder if the evidence suggests whole beets over juice or not.

  6. Thought this was going to be a which is best, beet juice vs whole beets video. But it's just a video to say whole beets do the same thing as beet juice. We all could have figured that. Clearly I didn't learn anything new. I think I may be the only plant based eater really disappointed in gregers content lately. We didn't know, until, now…2012. Regressing a bit? Oh well, still excited for his book. I hope I learn something NEW

  7. Hey Dr.Gregor, so cool that you picked up that topic…..cause I always try to convince my boyfriend eating beets instead of taking a beet powder. Mabe now I've got a chance he believes it!!!! 🙂

  8. Dude, We don't need to eat that much carbs. We need to eat fat because other wise it would pull us from ketosis. We need acid blood, like dah because it is nature like starving.

But joking decide, could you do some videos on ketosis?

  9. My beets are just sitting in my yard, lol.I don't like beets much and it makes all waste from my body look like blood. Also I use to Beast lift weights and yes those nitrate i those supplements helped me lift more and Beast up more, but with side effects. Those supplements made my neck and face look fat, also made me cranky.

  10. Just saw a commercial for Botox this week. Not for cosmetic use but for migraines. Would love to hear your thoughts on that. And where do you get red bread? Red beet bread would be right up my alley. Love those beets.

  11. It would seem pretty painless to blend the beets to a liquid and use that rather than water in making whole-grain bread. I usually make my own bread. I'll try this sometime soon. Perhaps a difference will be detectable in blood pressure.

  12. I love your videos!!!!! is there any chance you could consider making a video on green powders like wheat grass, kale powder, spirulina, spinach powders etc. are there any benefits or it's all commercial? Thank you in advance!!!

  13. If beets help improve your athletic performance with less oxygen, would people with COPD see any benefit? Could this help someone maintain their mobility and functional abilities?

  14. I can imagine carrying a whole beet in my jersey pocket and gnawing on it as I ride along. I'd look like I was bleeding from my mouth…my whole chin would be red…I'd look like a zombie. Anyone have a practicle idea for eating a beet on a bike? (I do eat potatos while riding.)

  15. Ok, beet juice works, & whole beets work, but the heading is "Whole Beets vs Beet Juice". So? Is one better than the other? Enough better to make a difference?

  16. A famous German doctor (Dr. Max Bruker) cured many people with a raw, freshly made muesli and salads. Beetroot was also added to the salads but raw. I wonder if this would increase its great effects on health.

  17. How is it extremely to choose life over death, feel the truth people, you actually have energy when you eat living/charged food. One love pulls. Sacrafic is love, show God you believe the spirit is in everything and stop condoning the murder of our final sacrifice.

  18. Can I just put the beets in a 💉 and inject it? I hate needles (shudder) but the thought of an entire can of beets makes a big needle look just fine. Baked beets aren't bad, but every damn day? No THANK-YOU. however, beet tops are really good, I wonder if they are similar in health properties? Also I already thought of beet bread and cookies…. Already on it! The kids don't want anything green, but orange carrots or red beets just looks like the landfill food they already like! So they it minus the dose of cancer the usually get with those colors… BTW AMAZING channel ♥it. ♥♥♥♥♥. A side note, beets with the tops are super cheep.

  19. I could also add that beetroots have trimethyglycine which improves muscular endurance, increase strength and boost the growing of grow hormones.

That study case while running, is double blind? It could affect the placebo effect.

  20. I'm still confused as to which is better. Beet juice is a significant improvement, whereas whole beets result in an acute improvement. Both a significant improvement and an acute improvement sound good. I'm assuming the whole beet is better since you described it second.

  21. really, Dr Greger is promoting white bread!?!?! Don't care what it is "enriched" with. The benefit from beets cannot outweigh the damage done by highly refined bleeched flour. Maybe you should pull this video, it makes you look bad.

  22. Sooo… Which is better? Whole beet, or beet juice? Or are they the totally identical? I eat them whole and I juice them. I noticed if I make beet juice I get viagra like erections, but I dont get the same result eating whole beets.

  23. the first time i had beet juice before the gym was by complete accident and i blew my pr out of the water . . . i thought someone slipped me performance enhancing drug or something but then i saw an article about beets and performance like a day later and rembered the ladys at the juice bar at the grocery store i worked at gave me like 32 ozs of leftover beet juice. The stuff works.

  24. So, which is better — juice or whole? What are the differences? Advantages of one versus the other? Video does not answer.

  25. Brian Turner in his youtube channel did an experiment and compared the results with Citrulline Malate and according to him beet juice works better than any supplement he has taken.
