  1. Dates are surprisingly sweet, I eat the prepackaged ones rolled in coconut. Since they are high in calories, I eat them in moderation, but they really satisfy my sweet tooth without having to resort to cheesecake!

  2. Dates are amazing! Those in the Midwest should check out the Bergin Nut Company's medjool dates. Best I've ever tried.

  3. I had a muffin 3 nights in a row before bed, it took me an hour longer to get to sleep each night. Then I had ONE date before bed, it took me 3-4 hours to get to sleep that night, my eyes weren't tired at all and it was way past my usual bedtime. It seems natural sugars such as those in dates release energy slowly, so I have a few dates for breakfast to energize my day (never at night!).

  4. GOOD! cause Im addicted to dates :p
seriously I am vegan no wheat no refined sugars and I am skinnier now than before eating dates, (and I have them for breakfast with almonds, best breakfast food eveeer!!) they satisfy you and really give you energy!

  5. Ive eaten more dates than perhaps anyone on the planet in the last decade. My blood tests on youtube are always great.

Ive never met anyone that eats more fructose in the last decade either. Look at my liver enzymes, Ha1C and triglycerides…

  6. I'm sharing this vid with everyone at work who makes fun of me for eating so much fruit and dates.  They can't comprehend the 1/2 gallon jug of green smoothie and tub of dates.

  7. Of course dates are good for you it's packed with fiber and vitamins!!!! Same goes for fig's. If you like dates try the Chinese red dates very healthful. Google it.

  8. Yeah they might have a higher sugar level than some of the others mentioned, but fruit loops are almost 100% GMO! Stuffed with all that cancerous crap? I think id rather have something natural with high sugar levels than something gmo with a lower sugar count.

  9. of course the issue with a study like this is it doesn't reveal what the dates replaced in the diet of the subjects. If they were eating a fair helping of simple sugars before from biscuits (cookies), cake, sweet breads, etc, then no doubt dates would show an improvement. However, if they replaced complex carbs, salad and vegetables with dates, subjects would have had a decrease in nutrient intake. As always, a varied diet is best. And this would be revealed if you threw a lot of dates into a diabetic's diet, in place of fibrous carbs.

  10. The prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) just to eat dates. Sometime's for months in a row, without anything else. And in islamic scolars books, they're discribed as 1 of the best foofds. Only 1 tihng, they can cause heat in your body, so if u eat them mix it with fruits that cool the body. Like water melon. cucumber  etc

  11. This is great! I've been worried about the high calory density of dates being a problem. Now I'm glad to know I can relax and continue to chomp on them freely 🙂

  12. I get very nervous on dates. Sometimes I breakout in hives. It must be my social anxiety and poor self esteem. Blind dates are better. If the date is not going well, I sneek out -ahem-while they're not looking.

  13. I had dates for the first time yesterday. I cant belive these are actually healthy. I felt I couldnt stop eating them, it was just like candy. Nice to see they are good for me, now I can enjoy these 😀

  14. I don't know man… Could you please provide us with a link on that study you mentioned in your video? An "ideal" food containing 80% sugar just doesn't sound/seem right…

  15. I often think we don't understand food nearly as well as we like to think we do. We talk about this nutrient being bad, that nutrient being good, and we keep bumping into contradictory evidence and foods that go against expectations in their effects on the body. We really just don't know and shouldn't be so absolute about what's good and what's bad. Science keeps trying to reduce diet to something simple as 1+1, and increasingly my intuition tells me you can't. Science itself is actually showing this too.

  16. Middle eastern were eating dates for thousands of years and its the only tree that grows in the desserts of Arabia and sole primary food for people there..and it is considered to be a blessed tree by Allah ( God )

  17. ok so its healthy for our body but must be really bad for our teeth with this high sugar content
long term ? : poor teeth > bad digestion > poor health ?

  18. Dr. Greger, I need your help. Dates in the UK make my daughter and I ill. They make me wheeze with Asthma, and give Melody chest pains. I put this down to the preservative chemical Sulfur Dioxide. We need a Dr. Michael Greger SHOP! One that sells Frozen Dates with no chemicals: http://butterflylullaby.blogspot.co.uk/2018/01/frozen-dates-wanted-no-sulfur-dioxide.html Even organic dates make me ill. It is a real shame, because I purchased your How not to Die cookbook. And it has some great recipes using dates. Melody and I loved your cinnamon cookies. But the chemical dates have let us down!

  19. Wait, ✋ why are they better?!? Don't leave me hanging. All the stores have medjool almost exclusively. Would you do a video on prunes and bone health?

  20. What about ajwa dates? They are more black, smaller in size and touted to be of more medicinal value in Islamic culture. The powder of the crushed ajwa seeds is said to cure heart disease and clear up arteries. Don't know how true that is though

  21. So interesting. I love dates and use 100℅ date syrup too. Didn't know the sugar content is so high. Thankfully it's a healthy choice.

  22. There’s soo many kinds of dates, it’s almost like bunching citrus fruit all together just thinking of the ‘qualities of dates’.. I think it’s worth investigating this ‘ Halawi is the best variety notion.. from a gooey Saudi Medjool to the biscuity dry ones found in the Maghreb & red Chinese ones, there are more than 2000 different varieties, and no doubt their nutritional profiles will vary with the variety as well as the environment they’re grown in and the stage of maturity when they’re harvested. Bad for your teeth though folks, if you doubt it, go check on the state of date farmers’ dentition. ✌️
